Hello All

My name is Luka

I am new one here and this is my first post.

I started to use SOM a few days ago and now I need a lot of help :)

I am Georgian and I would like my game to be in Georgian but the game uses two fonts (Mincho or something and Gothic or something :D )
I want to use my native font. I ‎  was thinking about backing up above mentioned fonts and renaming my fonts (acad nusx geo) and replacing those ones but I thought that was not the brightest idea, because if I'll want anyone to play this game on their own PC they might experience problems with the font. I hope this is the right place to post this.

thank you all in advance and I am very glad to be here with the peaople who LOVE the KF games just like me.

Welcome aboard!

Using a different font shouldnt be a problem, there is a section of the final game.exe that allows you to manipulate which font(s) the game looks for to display in game. ‎  One of the members here (hwitvlf) created a custom exe that looks for an "SOM.TTF" file. ‎  So really the best way to get your font in game is likely to use this .exe and just create a copy of whatever font you want to use and have it install as SOM.ttf font.

Now Im not an expert as to writing the game in a different language, but Holydiver has a tool for that as well. ‎  I dont know if it would be best to get it in english first then convert to another language or write it from the start in Georgian...the reason being, I dont know how to modify the actual SOM editor to use a foreign language.

Im sure once he pops on here he will likely answer this thread.

Luka, I think you want to make a introduction new thread for yourself (this isn't actually an intro thread)

You would have an impossible (probably literally impossible) time trying replace the game font which is supposed to be Shift-JIS or Windows codepage 932 specifically. A) you would have to make a font from scratch, and B) it probably still would not work, and C) Shift-JIS is only intended for Japanese and Latin alphabets/characters... though there is a little Greek and Cyrillic also I think.

Fortunately I spent a lot of time working on this problem even though no one has taken advantage of my work yet because I thought if we are going to make Sword of Moonlight popular it needs to be accessible to all 6 some odd billion or so (and counting) people on planet Earth asap.

You should visit this (https://www.swordofmoonlight.com/bbs/ind...355.0.html) topic and start asking questions.

I don't quite understand what you mean Holy Diver... Can't I just replace those 2 fonts with my own ones?
And by the way I have never before used any forum so I have no Idea how to make a new thread and so on.

I am now working on soundtracks so I won't need the fonts for a couple of days but I want my final product to be in Georgian
This is a picture of my alphabet with English equivalents.
This is how it's read.

as you can see there are some letters with 2 characters (jh, sh, ch and so on).
There letters are commonly used via capital letters.
but there also are some typing issues. let me show you what I mean.
And this is how it's typed.

this is the font I want to use

If you have an ASCII-based font that just replaces the English letters with Georgian ones then you can try it if you're willing to work that way. I recommend you use Unicode however. That will also give you a way to translate the game into English and other languages so other people can play it. You will need to figure out how to work the forum first. I recommend someone split these posts in this case and let Luka know where you put them.

ok but how do I do that? is there any directory in the SOM where I can put these fonts?

Not normally no. You would have to either ask people to install your font, or program a custom installer to do that for your game. You have to hexedit your game's exe file to trick it into using the different font. You would also need to hexedit all of the game editors to use your font assuming you want to use it to make the game with. That may also cause further text box problems for you which could make your text not line up properly in the editors/games.

I'm trying to tell you, you don't want to do this that way (assuming it's even possible)

Sword of Moonlight Ex which implements the Unicode / gettext (translation) extensions has a font folder extension both where you can drop the fonts you need and where people can drop their own fonts if they want to translate your game or something.

If you want to use Ex you should download the Dark Destiny Ex patch and modify it to suit your game. There is a thread in the Dark Destiny forum that should have the last download location for the patch assuming it's still there. Todd has never actually finished DD and it was never released with Ex. If you use Ex you can easily use any Unicode font that includes Georgian script, and your game can be translated into different languages, and it will automatically detect if a user is using a Georgian PC etc.
