Hello (Creatura)

I have the install disk of Win98 and WinXP and I have Win 98 installed on my virtual PC but my problem is that it doesn't install. I'll add east language support and try but if it fails I'll install XP.

I tried installing the language but it looks like it's easier to write your own OS than find east Asian support for Win 98.

So I'm moving to XP

as for the error, here's the screenshot:

I thought you were having trouble installing on your real PC.
The error message seems to be hidden in your screenshot, but I'm not surprised you had troubles installing to Win98. The English version of 98 doesn't support Japanese. You could still install SoM on your regular PC, apply the translation patch, then copy the files to Win98, but I recommend you just use XP in VirtualPC instead. It has better networking features that might help you.

Make sure you install the VirtualPC addons (Action > Install addons) so that you can drag-n-drop files and resize VirtualPC's window.

There's a 'trick' that lets you test play maps on your real PC while you edit the map in the VirtualPC. If you get to that point and need help let us know.

Hey thanks for everithing. but I still have 1 tiny problem. I don't want my Widescreen GUI. Can I have old one?

By "old one", do you mean SoM's original Map Editor layout, or the new Map Editor with a 1024x768 resolution?

Yep I mean the original layout. :)
and How do I make map in VirtualPC and test on my 7?

My guess is that you make it with shared folders right?

An original-layout map editor with v1.2 features doesn't exist. You can use an older v1.1 SOM_Map.exe if you want, but it won't have Georgian font support or other 1.2 perks. The main 'perk' being an improvement in the message events- in 1.2, what you see in the Editor should be what the player sees ingame; whereas in 1.1, you often end up with accidentally 'split sentences' and other junk.

What is it you don't like about new v1.2? When I designed it, I sent a copy to everyone here asking for feedback, and made changes based on the few opinions I got back. But I would value your input for possible future changes.

As far as testing a map on your real PC- yes you use a shared folder. Directions added to top post here

I don't have problems with new layout. It's just that it is bigger than my max resolution in XP.
I may be missing proper driver for my virtual PC. Is it possible to make it use my V-Card?

All the emulated hardware in a VirtualPC uses drivers that come standard with WinXP, so it will never need additional drivers.

There's no way to make a program running on the VirtualPC run directly on your video card, and that would defeat the purpose of using VirtualPC anyways because your video card uses the "dreaded" hardware acceleration.

If size is the problem, we should be able to fix that. What size is your real PC's desktop?
Most likely, the desktop on VirtualPC is just set to too low a resolution. It should be set to 1024x768 minimum. If that's the problem, you should be able to drag VitrualPC's window larger in the lower right corner etc (pictured).

Also, setting the VirtualPC's toolbar to 'auto hide' can help make more room (Right click on bar > properties > autohide).

That was exactly how I've been working around.

Thanks for the info. :)

Oh and I would like to get some more information on changing names of ingame menu options.
I want them to use Georgian font and text as I've said earlier.
