Nope, no progress so far, I'll try some different methods of making disc images, I'm starting to think it's the way I'm putting the rtim.t and rdat.t back into the image...

I had a lot of problems with re-inserting stuff onto disks also until I started using CDMage. I think a lot of disk image editing tools rearrange the data more than the Playstation can handle. They're more for making CDs for computer disk drives.

I've been messing around with the tool which was supplied for lifting KF textures, I found out that it also works to some extent with Shadow Tower. Unfortunately, it seems Shadow Tower used 8BPP textures, as far as I've seen.
Aside from that, I've been busy trying to find work and not had time to do anything with texture replacing. I do want to try and get something done by King's Field' 20th though. I'll try and keep it updated.

I was wondering how you were doing :)
If Shadow Tower uses 8BPP textures, it might be easier to edit them. The tool could be modified to recognize 8BPPs, rectangular etc., but I can't spare the time right now. It would just take adding tests to detect the extra formats and maybe tweaking the "write header" function for 8BPP.

I'm not completely sure what it uses exactly, I noticed there was a lot of files extracted using the KF tool, they were just corrupted... I was was mostly just playing around because I'd just got my copy of Shadow Tower... USA - Europe postal can take a darn long time...
From what I can tell, it makes use of different BPP files for different elements... Pictures for monsters in the V.S menu are all 16BPP, the weapon and armor textures are all 8BPP... Most of the files are actually in .TIM format though, I'm not exactly sure why they made some files in the same format they used for KF, and others in regular TIM... With KF tool I managed to use the extracted textures as a reference to make some HD versions of KF1(US) textures, one of them ended up pretty nice (used on the lighthouse). The other one is okay, but it just doesn't tile very well. I'll see what I can do about making a preview with the West Shore model I was making when I've got time and a new keyboard.

Ha ha, Tom, weren't you the one who took a lot of the Shadow Tower enemy pictures for kings-field.neocities.org?
If the tool's outputting corrupted Tims, that probably means they are 4bpp non-square Tims. Almost all the KF textures were square so I just made the tool assume everything was square to save time :( |
