Is all this SoM stuff complicated?

#1
I'm a fan of the KF games and recently found this place. From what I've seen so far it seems like the SoM program is a very complex task. I'd like to use SoM but I have no knowlage of computer programs. So back to the basic question: Is SoM something I could use?
Yeah, I'm still around. I haven't much to say anymore however I do lurk around here. Ninja

The main requirements for SOM are time, patience and willpower.

SOM is not as easy as ABC, but since all of its functions are predefined (meaning you dont have to build any programs for it from scratch) anyone should be able to pick it up and make a basic game out of it without being a rocket scientist or having a programmer's degree.

SOM, like any game maker, does require a very large amount of time to finish anything worthwhile. ‎  I would say of your choices of 3D game maker engines available, this is by far the easiest to use.

The first thing I would do is download the installer, update your files and go through the different sections of the tutorial located on the main page. ‎  If at that point you think its for you, then pursue it, but if you think its too time consuming or too difficult then it probably isnt worth your time to keep going.

Don't be scared off by all the technical talk bouncing around; making a basic game with Sword of Moonlight isn't very hard at all. I'm sure you could do it. Most of the 'complicated' sounding stuff being discussed here is beyond the normal game-making functions of SoM.

If you have a game in mind to make, I would advise that you don't start it right off but instead, start by making a few practice rooms where you can test ideas and make practice battles etc. You'll learn and make your mistakes in the practice rooms instead of stumbling over them as you make your main game.

And don't worry about the "technical talk" either... whatever comes of it, for the end SOM user/player the fruits of such talk will be easier to take advantage of than SOM itself Smokin

Thanks everyone. I think I will give it a try. I have too much free time anyway so this would be a fun time killer for me. Oh, and thanks HwitVlf for the tip on starting with practice rooms and such. I may be back on the forums every now and then too.

Sadly all of this was in vain... I'm unable to download it using a library computer. Knowing my luck I had a feeling it was too good to be true......

I have no internet at home but I do have a working computer and I planed to use my flash drive(external hard drive or whatever its called) to bring it home. I'll just stick with the regular KF games rather then getting my hopes up anymore just to be smashed again.

Where there is a will there is a way...I am certain someone ‎  Megaman around here would be willing to burn it to cd and snail mail it your way.

That is possable but to be honest, I don't want to give away my address to people I don't know. Everyone here seems like nice people but I still don't like giving away my address. So as I said before, I got my hopes high only to be smashed again.

Isn't that a little off-topic?
Anyway: If anyone could figure out a way to help me in this situaton I'd be very grateful. Even if I can never get SoM I still want to be here. Not that I could do much help...
