Info on using a joystick with SoM

#1
Someone was asking me about how to play SoM in VirtualPC using a joystick so here's a little bit of info on using Joy2key.

If you're running a SoM game in VirtualPC, you can skip Step 1 and 2 because VPC won't register your actual controller anyways.

STEP 1: If you're playing a SoM game on a real PC, it's a good idea to disable SoM's internal joystick function so that it doesn't interfere with Joy2key's operation. To do this, you can make a fake joystick with a program called PPJoy, and then set the fake controller active in SoM. Get PPJoy here https://www.simtel.net/free/Miscellaneou...75176.html and install it. Then, go to 'Parallel Port Joysticks' in the Control Panel, click 'add' and make settings as shown below (let Windows install the drivers for the fake joystick automatically).

STEP 2: Next run the SoM game and under 'Options' select the fake joystick- now SoM won't interfere with your real joystick.

STEP 3: Lastly, download Joy2key (attached). A configuration file is included that will work with an XBOX360 controller. If you have a different controller, you will have to tweak the included profile to match your controller/taste. Leave Joy2key running while you're playing and you should be good to go. The included profile is configured as below:

If using VPC, make sure you have 'VPC addons' installed (actions >install addons). Joy2key should relay your joystick signals to VPC as keyboard button pushes.

I really got tired of screwing with Vpc and VirtualBox, Every way i turned there was some sort of issue. Graphics during Debug and usb support being the most. being that they all use hardware emu. I finally went with multiple Partitions. Works great and utilises all my hardware.
P.s. the problem was using a a 64bit(vista sp2) host and 32bit (Win Xp sp2) guest with usb. I got endless endless B.s.o.d. just trying to plug some usb items in or out, and im not the only one with this problem. there are many many posts about people with the same issue. even with net share.
