John mentioned this to me in an e-mail. Someone contacted him in regards to Diadem of Maunstraut (probably because of my recommendation in the DoM manual of John being more knowledgeable about how SoM works?) and he had a freezing problem.
The freeze involved any monster dropping an item would make the game crash.
John loaded the guy's save and noticed he had coins from monsters EVERYWHERE. Collecting the coins remedied the problem, but it goes to show that one too many items loaded to the map can result in a fatal error. (probably pass the 256 placement number?)
I haven't tried this myself. Heh, I don't even have DoM on my computer - how blasphemous is that?!?!? ^_^
I still think this might be worth mentioning in manuals though under known issues....
