I never felt encumbered by the weapon damage aspect. I thought it added a lot to the adventure. You of course do realize one of the demons will repair you weapons in exchange for HP?
PS: I would not be surprised if there is no affinity based weapon durability loss. However I am positive if you use the right weapons for the job you will get a lot more bang for your buck in terms of how much you can "kill" (yes games are basically murder simulators) for how much repair you'll end up doing. Also think of your HP restoration options both as a liability to yourself and your weapons... the less damage you take, the more you will be able to afford to restore your weapons.
