patreon.com anyone using that?

So it was brought to my attention that a former affiliate with som.com had posted on patreon.com to get some patrons to continue work on SoM related activities as a hobby - as we all know, making games costs a great deal of personal time, time that could be spent on a paying job and so on. ‎  After reading into it, I think its a great website with a great idea...and was wondering if anyone has or is thinking about posting a patreon page to help them fund their work. ‎  I actually think I may.

Anyhow if anyone is on there and is looking for support, please post here!

From what I can tell yes, it does appear a legit way to get funding, however unlike kickstarter, the promises you have to make the patrons doesnt seem to be nearly as substantial...i.e. you dont necessarily have to do what you say to get the money sent to you.

I looked up Ampu-tea mentioned on your page. It's description sounded kind of dry, but I watched a video of someone playing it was hilarious. ‎  I definitely get the appeal. What parts did you contribute to the game?

Ampu-Tea was a 1 week game, was a test to see if a programmer and I could put out a game in one week and make any money on it. ‎  I did all the texturing and some of the modelling, sadly, that game is actually going to make it on Steam by next month..its sad what people are willing to play really.

I definitely would not brag that I had anything to do with that game - its not my cup of tea...no pun intended, which is why I am putting alot of time/money into the Dark Destiny game, its a game I actually want to make/play...the first I have attempted since the original.

I find it odd that people can browse to my patreon page eventhough I never published it ‎  Confused

Seems a bit odd they don't leave it off the interwebs until youre ready!

That is strange. I didn't mean to be nosy, but I found your page well written and interesting.

I would be proud of ampu-tea if I were you. No single game will please everyone, but it's setup relies on patience, strategy and coordination just as much some 'AAA' titles. I can picture it being a very good and wholesome game for kids to play. I would even play it until I succeeded once at least. And the textures were done nicely.

Well I launched my page - will see how it goes lol.

Hope I can at least make something back - the game is probably $500 in debt at the moment :)
