Registration will be down temporarily - dmpdesign - 2011-06-14

Due to the influx of spammers/bots that somehow are getting past the captcha settings I have in place, I am temporarily disabling site registration.

If you want to become a member feel free to email me at [email protected] and I will be happy to set you up with a user account (please supply your desired account name and email address).

Once I figure out how to implement a better security system on the registration page, Ill get it back up, but for now, sifting through several hundred fake accounts every day is just becoming a nuisance.

Thanks!

ive gotten several emails from folks wanting to join who couldnt, so im reopening and for the time being ill just put up with sifting through the spam bots.

hopefully the good folks keep trying to join.

I have joined before the bots I think so I guess I won't be affected by them, right?

Re: Registration will be down temporarily - dmpdesign - 2011-07-01

Ya it wont affect anyone on the site, i just usually get ~200 members a day trying to join up that are all fake.

Why would anyone want to be making fake accounts here anyway? It's not like this is an online game you can gain an advantage of with mutiple accounts. I just don't see any reason why it would be done.

Re: Registration will be down temporarily - dmpdesign - 2011-07-01

Unfortunately its not really a matter of what people want, there are literally tens of millions of spam bots out there that hit up any website that has registration and uses a programmatic macro to register, then logs into the site and creates spam advertising things like viagra, cialis or some porno site.

There are companies in many countries devoted to doing this as a way to 'advertise' their website and get people to click.

So more than likely, there is no human being sitting at the controls for the few hundred sign ups I get a day. ‎

Fixing the issue probably wouldnt be impossible, but for some reason, however holy diver installed this first forum, he did so in a way that upgrading the 'CAPTCHA' protocols for registration are not working for me, so I just need to spend the time to dig into it and get it working correctly so there is proper security on registration to help block these automatic programs out there.

the fix will come by next week im sure.
