Indies VS PewDiePie - JC Bailey - 2014-11-09

So I'm gearing up to participate in GameJolt's game jam contest. If you didn't know, a game jam is where indie developers gather (in this case online) to make games in a short period of time, and in this case, it runs from Nov 21-24 (72 hours). The theme for this specific contest is "fun to play, fun to watch, with an emphasis on humor". The top 10 winners get to have their games "let's played" on PewDiePie's channel, and in case you didn't know, he has around 35 million subscribers.

That said, I'm already making plans for my own game for this contest. What I have in mind is an 8-bit RPG Maker game that parodies the Final Fantasy series; I'll call it Final Fantasy: Blood Dragon. Expect to see lots of 80s machismo and punny one-liners. I have the know-how to make the resources for this project, but if anybody would like to help in some way, let me know. I'd be able to get a lot more done in such a short period of time if I had some help.

Until the contest starts, I'll play some of the FF games for research. Wish me luck! Cool

What sort of help would be useful to you?

Re: Indies VS PewDiePie - JC Bailey - 2014-11-09

I'd mostly need help with resource creation; so tiles, sprites, sound effects, and music. I'm going for a theme similar to FC3 Blood Dragon, just in 8-bit, so the artstyle will need to look like a futuristic red and blue neon glow type of thing.

Just keep in mind that resources can't be made for this project until November 21st.

I would probably stink at most of those since they involve 2D drawing.

If humor is one of the themes, would it it make sense to do something like using photos for over-sized character/enemy heads or bodies? They might be faster than pixel art from scratch and could be funny if done right.

Re: Indies VS PewDiePie - JC Bailey - 2014-11-10

Well, I would need art for the intro & ending cutscenes, I'm going for something like this (They don't need to be animated): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uriYizWkIjA

I don't really want to go "all out" on the humor, as I want the game to still be enjoyable to non-let's players.

Since the contest is short, I would try to help with whatever I'm able to. I'll send you a message. ‎  beerchug

I like the wire frame look. Reminds me of the scene from the 80s movie Escape From New York when Kurt Rusell is landing the glider which supposedly has a 3d wire-frame rendering of the city for navigation. ‎
