PSA: Running SOM on Windows 8/10 Without Crashing - JC Bailey - 2018-03-26
Having trouble with crashing in SOM's map editor or other SOM windows? Try this:
Download and extract DirectX 9.0c: https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/microsoft_directx_control_panel.html
Run directx.cpl as an administrator, go to the Direct3D tab and uncheck "Allow Hardware Acceleration", hit apply. Be sure to check it again when playtesting/finished using SOM. Have fun.
