For the record I did not implement most of this program. I just added partial support for Som .MDL files. Before I had to stop work (computer troubles) I had added everything for the .MDL format but the soft animations will not yet play back by the viewer because vertex animation is not yet implemented (even though the website claims the Quake 1 MDL format was fully implemented -- it wasn't / probably still isn't)

I recently downloaded an mdl converter known as quick3d however, it seems that the mdl formats for SoM arent the same as Quake mdl 's which i think you once stated, diver... So do you know what format the SoM mdl's are? I'm desperately looking for a converter ‎  Biggrin

SoM Mdl files are a proprietory file type......... Meaning that they were made exclusivly for Sword of Moonlight , the kings field making toolset........ Also means unles you have the exact software From used to make the files... recreating them is almost impossible........ I wasted months and months trying to actully insert new models in to existings mdl files......... All to no avail , the only progress I made was inserting a cube into an existing model........... Oh yeah, that time I will never get back........ I tried over 14 differnt types of software that outputted to MDL, even Aircraft and molecule software...... Som seems to be its own Monster........ and since From wont speak to americans AT ALL (trust me Todd and I have tried) We still have no idea what modeling software they used to even create them, more than likely they are as stated befor proprietory, and we will have to be happy to clever reskins of existing models...... Tis sad...... I hope one day some proves me wrong and finds the software they used to make the files, or finds a way to take .X files made then convert them for use in SoM ....... But even if you can convert a .X to an MDL you would still have the issue of creating MATCHING PRF files to make them do what they are supposed to do.........Just my thoughts...............ML

I agree ML, I think that on the animated model front, SOM is as good as its going to get.

Come now, this is the whole point of my importer. Download and see that it loads the animated models up just as well as Objedit etc. It is proprietary, but it's also been completely reverse engineered Rolleyes

EDITED: On the export front I'm just a little stuck converting quaternions into Som's Euler angles scheme (not because I don't completely understand the MDL format, but because converting the input from the importer into Som's format is a tough mathematical problem which almost no one is interested in)

I'm planning to get back on that pony soon but I guess I've taken a break to do what I really wanted to do before I started working on cracking this nut for everyone.

Well as far as this SoM software is concerned and ... Possibly based loosely around the abilities of people who CONTRIBUTE to the forum i would say that i havent given up hope yet! I am on standby if a basic model is required to further increase knowledge on this matter... I trust mr Lastrega greatly and respect your efforts my friend. Its just a shame youre not there when i IM you. ‎  Biggrin

Good news. I was able to get the back conversion (Quaternion to Som Euler angles) code working today / will get back to work on this.
