I've got a lot of items that require long events and this would save me much time, and may also save me from fixing a few bugs later. [/quote] This is mostly useful for 'always on' events like a healing flask setup etc. To set it up, just pick a map slot that you won't be using in your game (pick map > edit) and place a 'Event Dummy' Object on it. Try to think of any 'universal' events you'll want to have in your game like 'Dragon Crystal save from death', refillable healing flasks etc. and set their events up attached to the Dummy or in the 'SYS PLAYER DEATH' etc events. When you are ready to build a game map, copy and paste the 'events template map' and build on the copy (Map editor > pick map > copy > paste). The copy/paste function copies all the events so you won't have to add them manually to each map. If you've already started building a playable map and added 'universal events' to it, you can create a template 'universal even map' by making a copy of the existing map in an unused slot, and deleting everything on it except what the 'universal events' are attached to. This Copy/Paste ability is also useful for making night/day similar maps. build the 'day time' map, copy it and tweak the events/lighting to make it night. A lot easier than building from scratch. :)

I will pop an email over to john this week and get a proper newest translation auto installer on the site, and I will start uploading more of the unofficial addons into that section too.
Id like to keep the installer down to the minimum from software only assets as right now i believe it has a bunch of junk i did. I think I may create a subversion for addons if people want to update their files to a 'complete' set..this of course have to seperate map parts into some non installed directory as to not overwrite anything. I know mick had talked about doing this, but I dont know if he ever got around to doing it. What I have in mind (John hopefully youre reading this) is getting the basic set you use for 1.2 on the sites installation page, then having a subversion download for people to check in and get the latest addons that I will host, knowing that they will have to back up any personal files that may be similarly named so as not to cause conflicts...though I think I would for most purposes have two seperate repositories set up...one that will update your SOM files and one that will download addons into a seperate folder so you can manage which you install. This brings up the idea that I would also like to host addons in some sensible 'pack' setup. Any ideas guys?

i like packs and im down fer anything.. the only thing i would like to see (if its possible and not too much head ache) is either a list of what mdo and txr files go with what prof files and not just numbers and such(cause i know in my som has files in the folders that arnt used but i had to put them in to get the items i wanted) and/or the mdo and txr files labled the same as the prof file.. (which most newer addons are..just not the older but still cool stuff)
again only if it isnt too inconvienent or head achy to do cause i know just sorting thru the 1.2and adding stuff from the 1.1 my brain was making a puddle on the floor lmao... But im having tons of fun with this i got soo many wild ideas.. i just hope the IF / OTHERWISE statements r up fer them .. so far they have ben great xdd

A list would be nice, but it would take a fair amount of work. Todd's installer includes fan-made custom models which aren't covered by the v1.2 patch. The easy way to add the custom extras to v1.2 is to drop the 1.2 main folders into the 1.1 folders and overwrite. You should end up with all the 1.2 default models/exes and the extra addons from Todd's package. Then just put the combined folders back into the install directory and you should be good to go.

Maybe I'm missing something, but it just seems needlessly complicated and it also takes up a fair amount of space (relatively) since it stores hidden copies of each version on your PC. If model packs were made with an installer, it would be easy enough to add/remove individual packs through Windows normal add/remove programs setup. It wouldn't hurt to release customs in both ways so people could pick the method they prefer. |
