I know this seems like plugging, but it was a fun review to make. I am also going to review Kings Field 1 & 2 soon enough. Just gotta work on getting The Ancient City again and I can review that too. Hope you guys enjoy.

This caused me to actually fire up KF(1) on my PS3 (via PSN) ... I was surprised to see the black outlines around the fire were there. I kinda figured (from your vid) that was an artifact of emulation. One thing about the PS1 I think most (maybe all) emulators don't capture is dithering. That makes a world of difference.

PS: Was it just me, or does KF(1) seem lightning fast. It's like you're always running imo. KF has never been a game with a 180 turn combo, though DS might have that. The control difference BTW may just be because you're used to playing non-Japanese games which usually have their control scheme monkeyed with. Almost always the A and B buttons are flipped (so stupid) even to this day in Western ports of Eastern games. Only the more classy games buck that trend. It can be really annoying when your PS3 uses the A B scheme and you're playing a Region 1 game with the B A scheme. You'd think the PS3 being region free the games would have an API for detecting which layout you're using in this day and age, but per usual commercial software is pretty thoughtless in the user friendliness dept. I don't know which direction is "right" mind you. The history of that I suppose would be interesting. It's probably not a coincidence the cancel button (in Japan anyway) is an X on the PlayStation controller.

I remember KF games being pretty sluggish in terms of turning speeds back in the day. But whenever I play one today it seems like the turn speed is on crack. So I wonder if the slowness was only caused by the original PS1 clock speed, or maybe my sense of time has changed over the years.

Well, Kings Field (jp) was one of the first games ever released on the playstation in Japan. The turning speed is slow only because, the first Kings Field never had a run feature like the Kings Field games we got. (Kings Field 2 & 3) Its not like the monsters in KF(jp) are hard like KF1 & 2 where you need to turn fast from time to time, with the cost of your attack bar shrinking... But in any case, I am looking forward to reviewing Kings Field 1 & 2 US. Problem is, they are in ISO format. I have the actual games. Its just that my stupid PC will not recognize Playstation 1 discs, so I had to find a flawless ISO of both games. I will work on getting The Ancient City again, which is by the way, my least favorite in the series.

Reason is because its the slowest of all the Kings Fields, it doesn't follow the story from the previous 3 Kings Fields, and your damn swords break with use. >.> It's still a good game, I just wish they kept some of the flavor from the previous Kings Field games and stuck close to the kingdom of verdite. Would you have loved to see how King Lyle Forrestor has been doing every since Kings Field 2? I know I would have.

Did you happen to try the translated SOM version?

Just wondering if anyone has gone through it entirely other than myself. ‎  I tried to fix tons of flaws that were in the game (game crashing flaws unfortunately) and hope I got them all taken care of but I am curious if anyone has found more things I need to fix.

Thanks for the cool vid post though, I like it.

Do you have a list of your fixes? We'll have to incorporate anything like that into the Ex version. I wish you'd used Ex to translate it in the first place. Makes deciding which dump to use difficult. If the fixes did not affect the .evt files its probably not a problem.

I did use your program to translate it :P

Some of the fixes definitely affect the event files, but most of them were screwups with the enemies, missing objects, etc...which would definitly make starting from scratch a big pain.

Seeing as I have probably gotten a whopping 10 downloads of it I don't think you have to worry about it being remade for mass consumption any time soon.

You may've used Exgettext as an aide, but afaik the download you have isn't using Ex / doing the translation (err, localization) the Ex way.

I had not intended to fix anything maps wise, so using your fixes would be the right idea. If there were only a few event related maybe we can remember them or find them out some other way. I'd kinda like to use the original text on principal just out of respect for the authors, and because preparing a Japanese translation from your text would be extra work Sweatdrop

If I have to input all the text myself I'm not sure where I'll file my translation... probably not under en_US on the website anyway... but if it's the only compatible English translation that's where it will probably have to go in the download.

I'm kinda waiting to play this version in English, though it won't be as fun after translating (mainly editing your/John's translation) it myself. I'd guess there's a lot of people who'd like to play it worldwide if only because it's part of KF history. It would be nice to see it in more than English/Japanese too.

I just would like to get everything available in a consistent way so we can try to get a little more organized embryonic community wise.
