From Software "would like to return to the King's Field franchise"

#1
I'm pleased to make my first post at this great little forum, about this tremendously underappreciated, underrated, underknown, fantastic series, a positive one.

"...the company would like to return to the King's Field franchise, and that it's currently considering a PC version of Dark Souls."

From here:

God I hope they consider PC releases again...

Welcome to the forum, and nice article you've found there! :)

It's too bad about the author of that article has misinterpreted the part about King's Field, as it was only mentioned as a pointer to why they've created the Souls games, and that they will continue making that line and other 'dark fantasy' games.

So we're definitely getting another Souls game, by the looks of it. And even better, it means that another KF game is not to be ruled out - they're still thinking about the KF series, and they are going to make more 'dark fantasy' games, so that might spawn another King's Field sometime in the future. Who knows? ;)

As for a PC version, I wouldn't mind it, but I do prefer playing on consoles.

Welcome to the forum! ‎  beerchug

Interesting article. While third person games allow for better resolution, better visibility of character and customisation, i think they lack prescise control of attacking, blocking etc. I also think that KF games are more intuitive and easier to handle.
From's artwork in kf / souls is probably my favourite out of most major game developers. The style resembles customised and imaginative versions of medieval myths, assets, buildings etc. They remain undoubtedly grotesque in many cases but beautifully creative.

I really wouldnt be surprised if From team members popped by here now and then.

I think success of Souls series gave them courage. I'm not saying that they will release a KF game but i think they are considering it at least now. I still have some hopes for the future of the series. Cuz I'm not counting Souls series as a part of KF series

I completely agree, the Souls games has probably given them courage, and I think it's likely that they've got ideas of a new KF spinning around in their heads, though it might just be nothing more than small ideas and perhaps wishes. So we can only hope those ideas and wishes grow large and strong enough that they'll consider making a new game in the series. ;)

Cool find, glad to have you on the boards.

I read an article I think in Game Informer last week about Dark Souls and the KF spirit - I will find it and post it here (it was only a paragraph or so) but basically it says the director of the DS series is inspired by KF but doesn't want to produce KF games. ‎  Sad really, but Dark Souls really had a much more KF feel than Demon's Souls, now if they could just cut back the difficulty so you don't want to throw your controller through your tv set every fifteen minutes....

Personally, I don;t mind the difficulty of Dark Souls. ‎  Though definitely feel that Demon's souls had more of a KF feel. ‎  Not sure why.
Story wise, Hidetaka cannot legally admit that Demon's souls or Dark Souls have any direct connection to each other.
Due to legal bonds with Ascii, who later reformed to Agetec. ‎  He cannot even admit that Demon's Souls and Dark souls have anything to do with each other in the same sense. ‎  Due to legal bonds with Sony, whose legal team is watching carefully. ‎  Dks was originally meant to be a sequel, but Sony's legal pressure late in developement forced them to take on a placeholder name until changes were made.

This would be why anytime a Namco rep is asked whether they have ties, they immediately and loudly exclaim that "these two games have nothing to do with each other! ‎  Let me focus your attention on these new features...", and anytime a japanese speaking developer is asked the same question, they get shifty eyes and say "I'd rather not compare the two, next question please."

As for this PC version that Namco kept pushing for, I think it would likely involve alot of "hacking"? ‎  As in people running around with way more stamina or HP than they are meant to have, or something of that nature.
I am not a PC player, and I only work with console development, so I cannot be sure. ‎  But maybe others here would know. ‎  I assume things like World Of Warcraft don't suffer that kind of issue though, due to heavy monitoring. ‎  Or am I wrong? ‎  I never tried it before.

In the end though, the purpose of the PC version is just another money making avenue. ‎  Like when Disney sells pinnoccio "now for the first time ever..... again" (every 10 years) on dvd, and then blue ray.
I won't be surprised if Namco convinces From to sell T-shirts. ‎  After all, From allowed it before. ‎  I have a couple of old KF T-shirts here ‎  ;)

I've been more busy than I would like to admit, but I'm glad to come back here and see that things are still kicking :)

Since I was on it, I figured I'd just watch the whole thing. ;)

Nice t-shirts! Ah, I've got to get me those for my collection. You got any other KF collectables than what was in the video? Also, nice BG music. :D

And feel free to post that podcast when it's out! I'm sure there are more than just me here that would like to watch that. :)
