This is one of the hundreds of bugs in SOM. Unfortunately the users on this site refused to use the modified version (\<span> site blocked, contact your administrator/ex/diy/) I've developed that fixes the bugs, so people like yourself are stuck with this old crappy Windows 95 version that only works for like 20% of people 
It wouldn't be a big project to convert this game to using the modified version, but nobody has done it. If anyone wants to I have done a little bit of basic work on it, I can hand over those files to get a project started. The game itself is pretty crummy. It needs someone to play through it and fix its problems.
