The main requirements for SOM are time, patience and willpower.
SOM is not as easy as ABC, but since all of its functions are predefined (meaning you dont have to build any programs for it from scratch) anyone should be able to pick it up and make a basic game out of it without being a rocket scientist or having a programmer's degree.
SOM, like any game maker, does require a very large amount of time to finish anything worthwhile. I would say of your choices of 3D game maker engines available, this is by far the easiest to use.
The first thing I would do is download the installer, update your files and go through the different sections of the tutorial located on the main page. If at that point you think its for you, then pursue it, but if you think its too time consuming or too difficult then it probably isnt worth your time to keep going.
