A translation request, a big favor....

I just got custom firmware for my PSP 3000. ‎  Apparently this little scene has come a long way, and it looks like the officials are working with the "customs" instead of trying to stamp them out.

Anyway, with custom firmware 6.60 pro-b9 and its wonderful soft modding goodness, it was a simple install and I have quite a few extra features and the official firmware one button push away. ‎  One of the bonuses of the custom firmware is that I can rip UMDs into ISOs. ‎ 

My request is... ‎  Could I please have the best translator I know of (John) translate King's Field Additional I and II with the perfect ISO provided?
I'll even go as far as to reimburse you for your time.

I've looked into translating the Additional titles, but there are some technical roadblocks. Fromsoft lumped all the game files together and used a proprietary compression format. That makes the files very hard to extract/insert.

There was no need to use compression as the game is tiny so I think they were purposely trying to make it hard to tamper with. They even put some bogus misleading files on the disk whose purpose seems to be to confuse hackers. ‎  I would love to translate all the Additionals, but it would be quite involved to unravel them and I want to stay focused on finishing my SoM game for now.

If someone else gets past the technical parts (ie deciphers the compression format) I would try to make some time to help on other aspects of translating that don't require as much focus. ‎  Sadani

Ok, just to make sure we're on the same page here, I ripped my ISO (which is straight from my disc) and extracted it.
This is of King's Field Additional II by the way....
Here's the file(s) tree to see if this is pretty much how this extraction is categorized for me.

In those folders, I'm seeing quite a few familiar file types. ‎  Like .bin, .sfo, .png, .dat.
The only unfamiliar file type I really see is .bnd and there's quite a few of those.

Overall, 435 files in 18 folders.
If this is what you were seeing from before, then please allow me to devise a plan B...
...if not, you'll definitely have something new to work with. ‎  Its just a matter of me getting it to you which is the easy part.

Speaking of something new to work with, I know I do.
See that BMG folder in that picture? ‎  That is full of .at3 files. ‎  I did a little research as to what to do with those and found a goldmine. ‎  It turns out there is a little homebrew PSP program to convert these into high quality WAV files.... even add perfect loops and fades. ‎  (Which is ironic since I couldn't get any PC codecs or programs to do the job) ‎  Needless to say, I'll probably have my PSP on all night, but I should be able to make the perfect Additional I and Additional II soundtracks.... soon to be shared here and the Agetec forum.

The hardest part would be naming the files, but not really.... since most of the songs are remixes from previous King's Field games, I could just go with a similar name to those. ‎  I might need a little help in the naming department though.

ok... ‎  these at3s in the BGM folder are like weird jazz, techno and rock tracks.
Are those hidden as well? ‎  Or are these casino songs? ‎  (In Additional II, I never gambled in the bar because I couldn't read what was going on)

Theres a jazzy song in additional 2 for the cards, i should know as i got the magic regen ring from there in a bet. No idea how i did it, though.

That is the same Addition layout as I have. The AT3 file don't belong to the Additionals, but come from a Fromsoft RPGMaker-like game (according to Knight-teen). As far a I can tell, the only viable place text could be is in the BNDs or in "main.dat".

From what I understand, the BNDs are an archive format that Fromsoft has used in multiple games, but they usually change it a little in each title. It's a group of files that can either be compressed or uncompressed. I searched the BNDs and DAT for text and didn't find any. There's still a chance text is uncompressed and somewhere in those files, but it would take a bit of work to check - a "relative search" or swapping out arts of the BND files with blanks and seeing it the text still shows up ingame. ‎  ‎

I have never played the additionals...they arent true 3d right?

I wonder, would it be possible to try to make an SOM game from them?

I dont like these games, so i wouldnt be prepared to make a game from / about them. The system is very different, though to be honest the game would have looked much better in proper 3d rather than having all 2d scenes and enemies. If the psp can run kf2 it can run a game similiar to SoM.

I sort of agree the non 3d world was a bit of a cop out, technically speaking the psp could have easily done KFTAC, Eternal Ring, Shadow Tower Abyss or any PS2 style 3d game, so there was no excuse on that front.

I still wonder though if the content of the game may be of great value, I really dont know, Ive yet to play one :)
