CRIPE! Computer Problems!

#11
My advice would be replace the PC...if its the one Im thinking of, its outlived his typical life expectancy.

Pop the hardrive out, load it in the new machine as a secondary drive and be happy that your files are safe.

Yay! ‎  My computer is mysteriously working fine again!

Seriously, this thing is fast... ‎  and apart from the whole shutting down, won't boot up thing, it works great.

I might look into how much a new motherboard would cost vs. a new PC.

I just don't want 7 or Vista. ‎
I'm so XP OLD SCHOOL.

it's also possible you have a burned or infected bios. in this case your only option is to flash your bios, if you can.

You know, my bios does act rather strange. ‎
In the setup I had to put it to quick boot and another option (I can't remember, but I'm away from my computer) or else it wouldn't start AT ALL.

That wouldn't account for it shutting down after windows was booting, would it?

I remember when I was getting all my drivers to the newest versions, I was trying to find the newest BIOS version. ‎  Dell's link was dead.

I'm not even sure how to reflash a bios. ‎  I do have a floppy drive - I think that's how they did it on older computers.

John, that's definitely the latest bios. ‎  I think that my Floppy Drive is not working correctly though. ‎  I've tried multiple floppy disks in it, and it can't read/format any of them.

I've been looking online for other ways to re-flash a bios... ‎  I'm not having much luck. ‎

A lot of it sounds like a huge pain in the ass. ‎  Besides, this computer has been working fine for a while.

Heh, I've definitely got enough funds for a new PC. ‎  Hell, I have enough just from the cash I got for Christmas.

The thing is.... ‎  I LIKE THIS PC A LOT! ‎

Its like my old pair of boots that has holes in them and are so comfortable and broke in.
The familiarity, the smell. ‎  Its still worth the fallings aparts. ‎

Fuck this computer. ‎  I'm getting a new one tomorrow. ‎  I've got the money for it. ‎
I am so sick of messing with this damn thing.

I'd like to know if I could just slip my old hard drive into the new computer and pretty much pick up where I left off. ‎  ....but it doesn't matter. ‎  I'm still getting a new PC.

If your old machine uses a SATA drive the likelyhood of you being able to toss it in as a secondary drive is very high.
