Happy Belated Birthday Tris!

#1
one month late...but I figured it would be ok since today marks the repair of the trismegistus forum itself.

Tom, there is one topic (the one called cheater!!) that I havent figured out the mystery of why its not showing up yet...but i can work on that more later.

For now, happy birthday tris....one month over due=)

So what all did recovering the posts entail in the end?

Well, luckily I had your mirror site to compare topics/messages with else I would have been screwed.

There is probably an easier way out there to fix the problem, I am however not smart enough to know what it is.

I found an old decemberish backup I think you made of the forums lying around the server...so I pulled the sql dump and opened it in wordpad hehe.

I then made a new dump of the smf_messages and smf_topics table from the current backup from yesterday.

Then I had to do two things....I had to filter through all the smf_topics table and add in everything that was missing in the new table vs the old one...thankfully in all but one topic, nothing had been overwritten (for some reason the database has written data into the same topic number as the one that contained "cheater!!!" and i couldnt get all the posts to show up).

Then I had to go through the whole smf_topics dump and copy/paste all the messages back in by using a 'find' function for the topic headers. ‎  Not rocket science, but very time consuming...especially since for whatever reason wordpad was not playing nice in the highlighting dept.

But anyways its here, and I will never prune the forums again!

So when you were done transplanting everything you imported your sql file back in??

Did you not ask for advise in the SMF support forum? I hope your profession played some part in your confidence in what you were doing...

Nope didnt bother with the SMF forum.

Once I saw the link to your forum on which topics needed to be added back in it was just a matter of finding them and copying it back and making sure there were no ID conflicts.

So does Trism have an official "birthday" or can I use February 3, 2009? (working backwards from the opening post) ‎  Redface

EDITED: Btw, does Trismegistus have more than one release? Ie. versions, eg. 1.1 for example?
