Ludem Dare #28!

Dunno if anyone else entered this, but I think you'd be able to use SoM!

If anyone isn't aware of what it is, it's a 48 hour challenge, where you have to create a game to the theme they supply!

You can find out more here: https://www.ludumdare.com/compo/

The theme this year was 'You only get one'. I entered, but I didn't use SoM, since it would be difficult to make a game in that theme with SoM... I dunno, you only get one earth herb? :P

You can check out what I did here: https://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-da...&uid=31753

Downloading it now. Your description reminds me of those "choose your path" books where you jump to a different section depending on your choices. I remember reading one where I was stranded at sea in a life boat. I chose to drink the salt water and my tongue swelled up and I died. . .the end. Guess that was the wrong choice ‎  Badteeth

I got burned alive by a raider, my vitals were splattered, shot with a rifle, exploded to bits twice (I really wanted that bomb!), but the real mystery remains... what would have happened if I ate the weird beans!!!! ‎  Drool

I like the simple yet expressive music. It's similar to what I plan to do in my game; it's so hard to come up with great long music so I was going to try a few simple themes like that played at key moments. Incidentally, there's a typo in "man couldn't contain it's self" intro should be "its" or maybe "itself"- I think "man" (short for mankind) is one of those collective nouns that's treated as singular.

I can picture this in SoM as each day being a room with 2 exit paths. One to another day of life and the other to a sure death event. ‎

Thanks for playing it, and spotting that typo -- I'm allowed to fix stuff like that! Must not of noticed because of doing the game over a full 24 hours, then sleeping and uploading the next day, rather than being smart and doing 12 hours each day...

To be honest, I wasn't very happy with the music myself, I spent about 10 minutes on each piece, and I think it could of been a lot better... Coming up with good stuff is one of the hardest parts... The weird beans were probably one of the more disturbing things I wrote as an ending... Hint: Radiation... Since I had to sit through a lecture on radiation, and remember a small amount of what they say happens to you...

As replying to the first post, it was intended to be just like one of those books, since I recently started reading/playing a set of them called 'Lone Wolf', great stuff.

As for the game, I'll probably fix any bugs, complete the art and maybe add a small graphic to each choice, add some more choices and release it for free once the competition is over.

I'd love to, but one of the rules of the competition is that you're not allowed to use resources that:
1) You didn't create in the 48 hours
2) You didn't create yourself.

Thus, I'd be breaking the rules. ‎  Sadani

Thanks anyways though, and hehe -- SoM really does require so much... I'm gonna get a book on OpenGL, and once I've chewed that I'm gonna start learning the WinAPI for C++, maybe I'll be able to one day put together a 'Sword of Moonlight: Rebirth' or something of the sorts, something that'll export to Linux, Mac and Windows... There's only hoping for now though, since I'm working on so many projects at the moment...

I was thinking that a single-shot dueling pistol game could be a decent theme for this "you only get one" challenge: a race between speed and accuracy to hit a target before he hits you, with a tally of wins vs losses at the end.

You could maybe even set up such a game in SoM by using limited MP with the Light Arrow spell to make a "single shot", and using invisible barriers to lock the player in place so he can't dodge bullets. Would be interesting to try anyways ‎  Coffee
