New wiki site for the som.com community

#1
I think its about time we begin centralizing all the knowledge and data collected within these forum pages.

I am in the process of adding a new site wiki and have generated a beginning wiki page in two locations using two different wiki backends.

The first site is the one I have put a bit more effort into, it is developed from mediawiki, the same wiki source that wikipedia uses and will be familiar for anyone who writes on those pages. ‎  For examples I have already loaded a few pages from wikipedia itself into the pages (some that are likely edited by some of the members here like Guyra) but you will see a few things that arent quite fully functional yet such as broken links and missing templates...but I am working on it.

This is the site id really like to use: swordofmoonlight.com/somwiki and you can go ahead and create accounts and begin using it if you wish. keep in mind you have to register seperately on the wiki site and you will be required to authenticate your email before you can begin adding pages and editing.

Alternatively, we are also looking at a wiki utility created by 'lionwiki'. ‎  its current address resides at swordofmoonlight.com/wiki and you can browse what little i have there if you want. ‎  unfortunately im not as familiar with it so it is not as far along as the other wiki site for you to view its capabilities.

Over the next few days myself and a couple others will be determining which wiki site will provide us with the functionality and ease of use we are looking for, but for now if you have opinions please chime in.

Wow I had to answer a question. Good thing I knew the answer ‎  Biggrin
But what if someone doesn't know the answer ( I am a geek but not all of the people who plan to... wait a second... we all are geeks here ). Biggrin

Ok let it be so, since only the fans are likely to post there. Razz

if a legitimate member wants to create an account there and cant answer those questions they can just send me an email. ‎  The 'help' link on the left side explains the need/use of the question and what to do if they cant answer it.

I suspect anyone here will be able to do so, but if not Ill be more than happy to get them an account made up. (heck, eventually you can use the wiki to answer those questions anyways!)
