Verdite, ever worth using? +KF3 magic...

The first Verdite stone you'll encounter is in Shudoms Cave and generally that's the first thing I do when I start this game.
This allows you to have all magic types start leveling up so you don't have to practice whatever you get the last one
Here's how you have to accomplish this:

oh and by the way, do any of you know japanese? I mean what does this guy say?

I've played this game a loooot of times all the way through with 100% since 1998 and I discovered this guy today.

he gave me a Gold Ring so there are 2 of them in the game just like Green Bracelet and Silver Ring.

Oh and BTW Don't ever sell anything except for Magician's Key (but you should sell it after you get 2 of them)
I don't use magic crystals or Power Fruits either. It's more challenging that way.
The Wisdom Fruit raises your intelligence which allows you to see descriptions of items in the inventory.

So my basic strategy is like this:
watch the video, that's how I always start it (get verdite and get back to Quist).
then I find 2 Magician's Keys ASAP and sell 1 to Tim (the guy at Lake Noel).
Then I go to Ed Edmund (the gravedigger) and buy Flame Rod.
That's it that's the basic start. I have my pattern of exploring the game and I found it most comfortable.
If anyone needs any help in this game I'd be glad to help you.

Even after all these years the Royal Cemetery is still a mistery for me though.
1 Portal doesn't work and I have no idea how to fix it,
There's an enemy behind you on a high platform as you teleport and I can't get to him (probably the broken portal has something to do with this).
And I've also noticed that there is no fire on one of the torches where you fix the Moonlight Sword.

These are my problems in this game, other than that I know everything. ‎  Smokin

There was a post asking what Mel was saying on the Agetec forums a long while back. It's not real words- the middle character isn't even a standard Japanese 'letter'. ‎  It would translate to something like fooatu. I always thought maybe he was crying over Gigi or trying to communicate but couldn't?

But why the hell did he give me the gold ring? is this a hint that I should use Orladin's pick?
I'll try it as soon as I have the extra pick. I'm in the passage of thieves now so I think I'll get it in a couple of days.

Oh and BTW I forgot my other problem with the game:
There are couple of NPCs who mention that you have to combine two rods (silence and flame).
I had no luck with that...

My personal opinion on Mel Morris is that he gives you the gold ring because #1 - from software wanted a secret way to give the player a reward for actually talking to him instead of killing him, #2 - the thieves pass (the next area after you meet him) is chock full of scythe skeletons who often paralyze you and the gold ring is used to avoid this or lessen the effects thus giving you a sporting chance to live against them. ‎ So i dont think they were trying to embed anything more secretive beyond it, his words looking like japanese is just a coincidence, its meant to be unintelligible gibberish..he is a tree after all!

I added Mel to KFDD and gave him a little more background story (whether or not anyone accepts it as canon is up to them of course heh).

Creatura, earlier this week you messaged me about some more questions in this post, so I am assuming you are talking about the staves and the portals?

As far as the staves go, I would guess quite honestly that the translation was a bit flubbed when they mentioned 'combining' the two staffs. ‎ There is no way to combine them in the game, the flame staff has the ability to launch fireballs, and the water rod has the ability to one shot the undead, thats pretty much all there is to it sadly.

As for the extra portal etc in the end of KF3, if you play through KF1 it may help a bit. ‎ The last area of KF1, there is a very large map around this center area where the demons are being produced and shooting lightning at you. ‎ The addition of that tiny ledge above you is just a nod at the area that surrounds those small rooms in the original game. ‎  If the ledge wasnt there it would be innaccurate to the original game, but there is no way to get up there. ‎  I have played a hacked rom of KF3 on an emulator specifically to be able to fly my character anywhere i wanted in a map and noted there was nothing up there, just a blank room with a few demons in it. ‎  so it is just for surroundings, nothin gmore. ‎  as is the unlit lamp. ‎  sorry that there isnt some cool secret =/

wow thank you for those answers. I just remembered one more thing:
When you enter Austin's father's grave (far end of the castle wall) there is a secret room in it which has a light crystal and a message of his dad.
So I remember once entering this secret room and everything went white for a second just as Orladin gives you boost to light magic and I think light was boosted there too. I'm not sure why and how that happened. just wondering if this has occurred to any of you.

I was looking thorough a Japanese book I have called 'Verdite Trilogy Perfect guide' and saw a paragraph about Mel. I should translate it and see if we missed some hidden meaning in what he was saying. ‎

I translated the section about Mel. Basically it says:

"Log Stalker- have you met Mel Morris [actually Gosaku]? He is the only monster in King's Field that has a nick name. Log Stalkers are undead monsters created when a dead tree is possessed by a soul, they are generally ferocious and intelligent. That's normal in King's Field III, but near the ruins of Gigi's house on the Lake Noel Map, there's a fellow who's a little different. He doesn't attack people when he sees them.

If you use the Truth Mirror, you'll see that Mel Morris was a pet that was brought from Melenat island when Gigi, who appeared in KF2, moved to Verdite. Mel Morris seems to have been left behind when Gigi fled Verdite after King Alfred transformed. He's very sad and gives you a Gold Ring if you talk to him several times."

Correct!

I checked darchangel's site, he will eventually give you the evil ring much later in the game (not sure what the trigger is)

from martin's site:

"There is one Log Stalker (the biggest one on my map in the North) whom you do NOT want to kill at first. Talk to him a few times and he will wind up giving you a Gold Ring. Now you are left with a choice. To kill him now will net you a Crystal Flask. Come back much later and he will give you an Evil Ring and you lose the opportunity at the Flask. Your choice."
