window and door help

#1
I need help because I've been wracking my brains over changing the textures of the window frame and the wooden swing-open door for a long time now.

I know the door is object #344 in the object editor but it has no corresponding texture I can find in the folder.

The window's brick and wood texture is mixed in the glass texture... how do I separate them? ‎  I have a replacement texture all ready... I've been using adobe photoshop and texture maker (for making seamless textures) so I'm excited to show off some high quality graphics. ... I'm at the end of my rope... ‎  Doh Frown

We should be able to get those two going for you.
The door 0344 is an MDL file whose texture is embedded in the file (unlike the external textures used on MDO files).

Here the procedure to edit the texture:
--------------------------------------------------
Download Tim Viewer (TV) from here

1) EXTRACTING THE TEXTURE:
Copy the MDL file into a separate working folder.
In Tim Viewer go to 'File> Scan Raw file' and browse to the MDL file.
A number '1' should appear in TV's window; double click on the '1' and you'll see the texture.
Go to 'File> Save Multiple Files' and type '1' in the dialogue box that pops up. TV will then generate two files where the MDL is: 'timextracts.txt' and '1.tim'.

2) CONVERTING THE TEXTRUE (TIM) TO A BITMAP:
In TV go to 'Convert> TIM to BMP' and browse to the where the MDL is and hit OK. TV will then convert '1.tim' to '1.bmp'.
Edit 1.bmp as you like, but don't change its size and make sure the new texture bmp uses 16 or 24 bit color.

3) COVERTING THE EDITED TEXTURE BACK INTO A TIM
When ready, in TV go to 'Convert> BMP to TIM' and browse to the where the MDL is and hit OK.
‎  ‎  3a)CONVERTING THE 24BIT TIM TO 16BIT IF NEEDED:
If your new texture uses 24bit color go to 'File > Open TIM' and open '1.tim'. Then go to 'Convert' and select '24bpp>>16bpp'. Then go to 'File > Save TIM File' and save over 1.TIM

4) Reinserting the new texture into the MDL:
In TV go to 'File>Insert TIM File(s)' and select 'timextracts.txt'. ‎ You're done!
-----------------------------------------------

For the brick window, that model dates back to my 'xStudio' days so it's kind of a mess. But with a bit of work, I can get it into Metasequoa and clean it up. Are you proficient with Metasequoia UV positioning? If you haven't used Metasequoia yet, I can re-adjust the texture for the window to get it the way you want. Just let me know what you're aiming for.

Attached is the door's extracted texture in case it helps.

BTW, feel free to ask questions before wracking brains (sounds painful!) ‎ Sweatdrop

I can't help much with the window without knowing what you want specifically, but attached is a remake in Metasequoia format and a BMP with the combined textures I used on the original and a few others you might want to use. I made the model with separate objects for easy texturing, but nothing is assigned yet, nor is it aligned to auto-fit in SoM.

todd,

In a sense the game is finished... all the planning, storyline, synopsis and map by map planning is done... only the time to implement it and refine the textures is left. I have a full notebook of every detail of the game including 10 in-game books and countless letters and notes... names, places, back-stories of everything imaginable, world maps of two different realms (spoiler) and how it ties into the KF universe.

I'm a teacher at a school and have a daughter so not much time is left for work on the computer, but spring and summer break is coming up and I hope to get a huge chunk done. (maybe the whole thing)? But, yeah, the game is coming along nicely and is a total different story from the demo.

John,

here is the model I modified and textured... can you show me how to put it in the game?
