Actually the KF textures should be even worse but I made a high-res picture with an advanced graphics plug-in of an emulator. Then I used that picture to make a texture but still it is crappy but hell it looks like an original ‎  Rolleyes

It looks nice to me ‎ Rainbow- it might look a little 'flat' compared to other parts in the picture, but I think thats because of lighting rather than texture resolution. Excellector's texture has a "baked-in" shadow on its top that is fighting against Oblivion's real time shadows that are underneath. That lowers contrast instead of making it 'pop'.

Also, Oblivion is using fancy lighting tricks like bump mapping to make parts (like the rock in the lower right corner) look ‎ like they have tons of 'peaks and valleys'. ‎ Does Oblivion's importer tool let you import bump maps for your textures? ‎ I'll bet Verdite or AirFlamesRed know an easy way to generate a bump map for a texture.

Actually Ben Taught me how to make bump maps but I think I was told not to use them. anyway I'll try to make it as good as possible and leave it open for custom tweaking for Scott if he likes it :)

I'm pretty sure the bump mapping you are talking about creatura is more a "normal" map which essentially is a bump map that is used as an underlay in a models material. It picks up shadows and the like - but only to an extent. It looks very strange too. Kinda like an x-ray version of your model's texture. If you ever need to know how to make normals ill show you.

However in the case of simple texture baking you could add the sword and create a new seam, and redo the whole texture.

I made a fresh texture of an Excellector which is a little different from an original.

Tell me if you prefer this one or the original.

Noob here - what is oblivion? Creaturas shot there looks compltely different to the SOM stuff I've seen. As John sais this is bump mapping. Normal mapping is a whole different thing.
Agreeing with Scott here - prefered the first one

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a first person RPG created by Bethesda. It's pretty good, both it and its predecessor, Morrowind. ;)
