Ex is a tool in the same way Som is a tool. I don't offer support, and if I did I'd make you pay for it (selling support is one way free-software authors are able to make money)

It's up to everyone to help each other figure it out like everything else. Just be glad there is someone to talk to if absolutely necessary.


PS: If you're able to access Todd on Live he has permission to give you my Live address so you can add me to your contacts. You're going to need a lot of help after you get Ex working. I hope Todd can help you with Exgettext also. We want you to succeed. If you've never used Live, you don't have to worry about making a new email address... you can use any email address.

I had to abandon my project a long time ago.
Now I have time to start it all over again.
First of all I would like to thank you all who supported me so far.
Since I'm starting this anew, this is going to be like very first post.
So my first problem is that I can't get to test the map properly. I get like 5 fps or something.
I read that lowering or disabling directdraw acceleration would help but I can't manage to do it on my Win7.
Still I will try to make a little test-map to start with.

It would be great if someone helped me with display in the first place :)

Strangely After placing an NPC on the map it all became stable and perfectly usable.
After deleting the NPC it became unstable and laggy.
Son now I will place 1 NPC on an unused piece of map and that should solve it :)

I already covered this, but ill say it again, this worked for myself and hgouls...

When your map starts hit tab to go into the menu. When you exit everything should be fine.

Thank you that helped me a lot. Now I don't have to put someone at the very spawn point.

You might as well know: what is the extension for movie file?
I would like to add an intro like in KF2.

And also what are counters and how do I use them?

And again I want to change the language of the game. I want text to be visible with Georgian font. I don't really care about the game language itself. ‎ I want my friends who don't know English to be able to read everything.

Now about custom pieces: I am sure that these can be made in 3DS Max but what are the extensions for them? MDO or MDL?
I want to make a lot of custom swords and will I be able to put them in game or will I have to replace original swords with these (which will set limit to number of custom swords)?
And how do I import them?

Hi Creatura, glad to hear you're working on your project again. SoM uses AVI movies

I think the laggy start when testing a map is from a bug in SoM's sound handling and it goes away when the first sound effect is played. If you don't want to open the menu each time you test a map, you can put a 'Play Sound' command in the 'SYS Open MAP' event. Setting 'Menu Sound Effect' to 'None' in the System editor also seems to work. Just remember to set it back before you release your game.

As far as a Georgian font, there are a couple ways that might work. One is through Mick's Ex setup- but I can't advise you on that one. The other way is a bit more complicated.

As far as custom models, Mick's MDL tool can theoretically convert multiple model formats (maybe 3ds) to SoM's MDL format. I've only tried it with animated X files made in Metasequoia (using the Keynote plugin).

To generate a non-animated MDO model, the source model needs to be in X format (Metasequoia can open a 3DS file, then save in in X format). Then use x2mdo to turn the X into an MDO. There is info about the procedure in the tutorial section here.

Ok as always I have a lot of problems with my project ‎  Biggrin

No previews in my map editor work at all but some models are displayed in parameter editor (about 50% of them show up).

And about the font: could you tell me that complicated way?
I couldn't manage to use that EX.
