I'm not sure what tutorial you're talking about so could you please give me a link?
OMG will my problems end with this thing?!!! Now I've output the project just to check if the video works. The video worked perfectly but the game didn't have the textures. Do I have to create the runtime, then put all the files in appropriate directories and then create a new installable package?

Not sure if its a windows 7 problem, but i had the same trouble. Heres whatcha do.
When you've made the runtime, place all the map textures (yeah, if you dont know which are which and are using the stock pieces, put em all in) and the items textures, and the object textures. Fortunately, for size, the SoM textures are awfully small. To select textures just right click and choose by type. Locate the first ".txr" file and select them from there. If you've customed everything like me, create a new folder, copy all textures to it, and sort by date. Take the ones that are the most recent, they'l be yours most likely, if you're pc clock is up to date.

When you 'create runtime', SoM copies all the map Piece textures (even if they're not used) to the output game's folders, but it only copies Item/Object textures if they have the exact same name as the model file (ie "sword1.MDO" & "sword1.txr"). So custom Item/Object textures that are named differently than their model, don't automatically transfer to the 'compiled' game.
As far as the editor previews not working, it seems to get fixed by decreasing DX acceleration for your video card. A lot of old games have the same problem because Microsoft's DirectX keeps abandoning backward compatibility. It's easy to fix the crashing problem on WinXP, but Win7/Vista is harder. You might try what's listed here, but I expect 'change settings' will be greyed out. Other than that, the best fix I know is to set up VirtualPC. Because VitrualPC doesn't use DX acceleration, SoM works fine. If you or Verdite would like to try setting up VirtualPC for SoM, I would help with the details. It's not hard. About support for Georgian text, there are some files for it here. I'm completely unfamiliar with the Georgian Alphabet so let me know if I got anything misaligned etc. I'm quite pressed for time, but if you get further along in your project, I'll try to help you with a game menu translation into Georgian.
Wow the fonts work perfectly THANK YOU!!!
But the editor window layout is changed though I don't complain I can get used to it :) as for hardware acceleration: I tried that already but it didn't work. I can change colors from 32bit to 16bit but that troubleshooter doesn't allow me to change settings. Dispite the fact that fonts worked out better than I expected I still would like to see these particular fonts ingame: _!KNN.TTF TACADL.TTF Oh I just noticed that I can't use these fonts in system editor or any other one. When I change the input language it shows question marks. I'm not sure if I've attached the exact fonts that I use for my input but I'll check and tell you, though I'll need them for NPCs Your fonts worked fine for displaying messages because I could choose fonts from a list and replace English input with that one. So I want it to be togglable in every menu for descriptions, messages, actions and so on. <EDIT> It turns out that it uses Sylfaen unicode. Download Sylfaen I also want to edit these but I don't know where the files are: Menu I tried virtualPC I imported the SOM but it didn't work. Then I imported installer and installed it however W98 couldn't add .reg correctly so I added it manually but it still doesn't work. How exactly do I add registry information in my virtual OS?

Changing fonts isn't as simple as swapping out font files. SoM games have text space considerations which have to be 'synchronized' between the text in the editors and the text ingame. I had to make/size the Georgian font by hand to get it to work. If you would like to try adding more Georgian fonts to SoM's "Display Formatted Message" event, you can try opening SoMG.ttf in a font editor like FontCreator and overwriting its letters with ones from a different font.
As far as changing text from the ingame menus and such, that requires a translation not just a font-swap and the text is embedded in many places in the exe files. Like I said, I'll help with that when you get further into your project. As far as changing the input text in the other Editors (Parameter, System), they would each need to be handled individually and I've never looked into it since they already supported the English alphabet when they were released, but I can help with that too when you get further into your project. As far as using VirtualPC, if you get the original SoM install disk 1 2 3, install it to your virtualPC, then apply the v1.2 translation patch, then add the Georgian font files, it should work.

Hey HwitVIf the CD doesn't work unfortunately. there is some error related to some items/object/enemy or npc .bmp or something I don't remember.
It says something in Japanese. could you please help me? I now need those previews. Thanks in advance.

I think you're having two separate problems. First, SoM won't install properly from the disk, and second, you need to see the preview windows in the Map Editor.
For the first problem, can you post a screenshot of the error? There are a couple folders named with Japanese text in SoM's install. I suspect your PC is complaining about them. If it's not done already, you might try adding Asian language support with the following method: Quote: -Click on "Start" on your PC. For the second problem (no preview), the best fix I know of for a vista/7 PC is to use VirtualPC. People don't seem to be using it, but I've found it very user friendly. I can help you through the steps to set it up if you like. Do you have an install disk for win98 or xp? |
