Verdite, ever worth using? +KF3 magic...

I'm playing KF2 and I have a couple Verdite at this point and will probably look into selling it for what looks like 4800 each and upgrading my armor... items in KF2 also sell for relatively close to their buy price so it's almost never a bad investment to go ahead and buy the stuff.

At any rate, it seems to me at least early in a game it's way more practical to sell the stuff asap and deck yourself out. You can always just fire off your magic 50x or whatever and get an equivalent magic bonus... thoughts?



Now in KF3 (aka KFII) my brother tells me yesterday that the magic is really F'ed up. And I seem to recall as much, though I think my memories about this had mingled between KF3 and K4 over the years. As I understand it you have a separate stat for each element which a Verdite will give +1 to each, but also have a magic stat which never rises other than using an item (Wisdom Fruit??) to get a +1 bonus. Can anyone confirm / deny this / explain it in detail / the merits? In this scenario, if casting fire 50x raises fire attack, then clearly Verdite is 5x more lucrative to use instead of sell (at least)



Finally I am very aware the gameplay in KF4 was radically pussified for the North American release. I'm curious if you guys have ever been interested in playing the original as it was intended. I'm also curious if any alterations were made to gameplay in the PSOne games. KF4 is also a little unusual in the magic dept. I can't recall specifics, but in the original you find a circlet on the first map (as I recall just in a barrel behind a house) which gives you like +30 magic, which is huge... this circlet remains your primary source of magic throughout the entire game, even though by the end +30 is not as much as it was in the beginning, it's still basically an fill your accessory slot with this item and you are a wizard, otherwise your magic is really not a primary damage factor (and less so later in the game)



The logic anyway seems to be in KF3 and KF4 the player is intended to be a practiced fighter instead of a studied wizard with any natural talent.

i dont know the spicifics of the magic stats however when you get to your first golden fountain (in KF2 or Kf3 J) (it's the one by the lava river) equip your light spell and keep casting it as fast as you can (as there is no recharge time on it) just keep pressing it as fast as you can for about 5 min or so (using the fountain to refill as necessary) and you will have all the light spells and your light magic will be very strong. It's a glitch i think, I did this and my light magic was all i needed for the rest of the game. LOL I just used flash on everything.
P.s. I garontee this one works. if you do have trouble getting it to work let me know and ill make sure i gave you the right proceedure.

By Light do you mean like the one that ups the brightness? Yeah I'd think attack spells would have to land on a monster to count against your bonus pts, but then support spells are cast on the player so...

Todd explained to me how the "magic" stat in KF3 is actually a wisdom stat related to item appraisal. I don't know if I realized this when I last played or not, but apparently my brother did not. It sounds like the magic setup in KF3 is not all that crazy after all / generally makes sense.

nooo.. I mean cast the light spell. it does not need to do anything, Your stats will go up, Trust me. the easyiest way i found to do this is set your select button (next to start) to cast the light spell. keep pressing it repeatedly (For at least 30 seconds) and you should soon see magic up and learned a new spell appear over and over at the bottom of your screen. thats why you have to be at a gold fountain. For some reason it will let you VERY quickly raise your light magic really really high. As i said it's a glitch or error in the game since magic in Kf2 is experience based it should not let the light spell raise your level like that, but it does! LoL

Really, give it a try, it's worth it. ‎

I don't doubt it works. I was just curious about the mechanism. I guess I'd never exploit a game I'm actually interested in playing.

If the magic doesn't ‎  have to actually hit something, I wonder if just swinging your weapon in mid air will raise your strength Doh

no, I thought that too so i stood there for about an hour trying that and nothing happend. as far as using that exploit, I've beaten the game quite a few times without any cheats so I think I deserve the right to use it as its not a code or a hack. I would do the same thing with reciprocating enemies. I'll just stand there and kill them over and over to gain levels. to much FF or Phantasy star, i think. it just makes things easyer. Dark Destiny has a few of these. I told Dmp that i did that and got to about level 30 if i recall. he did not seem amused. LoL Thats just how i play. I dont consider it cheating when it's programmed into the game that way. almost all the Kf's have that some where or another. On Kf tac i equip the fortune braclet then just go to the skeleton room by the kings thrown where they just keep reviving if you dont kill the big one. I've gotten to level 99 that way and it is'nt a cheat, and I end up mad strong. you can also do it in the jail with the 2 headed dogs as they give you 500 xp a kill so i just run back and fourth from one end to the other and they keep coming back. got to level 99 in just under 4 hrs

Agree, its not really a cheat, though the spell is broken a little.

What is actually happening is there is a glitch where when the first 'light' spell you cast begins to wear off the game will allow you to cast it over and over repeatedly.

You will notice for the first 30 seconds or so you can hit select all you want and you wont recast the light spell. ‎  After around 30 seconds the original spell begins to fade and if you catch it during that fade and hit select it will recast the spell. ‎  The built in timer does not reset properly and it will allow you to then recast the light spell continuously without having to wait for it fade off. ‎  I think its around 50 casts of the spell to get a light magic up.

As for DD having the repeating skeletons within thedeck's keep...Well that is exactly what its simulating, the skeleton room in KF3 :) ‎  I put it in there actually specifically for how you used it, so job well done!

I think everyone does that in KF4... the room/boss seems to exist almost for that reason. It's somewhat challenging to keep that room clear if you want to be expedient about killing things anyway.

I'm curious what there is to be exploited in DD that is not in all Som games. There are a couple of infinite respawn rooms... the skeleton room in Thedeck's area is a head scratcher (just what it's doing there??) ...I intend to do something about these exploits before I will release a Som game of my own.

It's not cheating, it's an exploit. I would not take advantage of that exploit because it would spoil the fun for me. I would not play it over and over excessively because I have things to do Evil

If doing that is more fun for you, then more power to ya.


...Oh I see the skeleton room commentary. I killed a few skeletons, but it was slow going compared to just playing the game. It's a poor man's skeleton king room. There's a monster in either ST or KF3 that looks like a skeleton king, but I'm not sure whether the bones are up to the level of Som's skeletons...


I sometimes do hang out in the latter area of a game building up stats, but usually after finishing the game then reloading the save point before I finished. And normally only if there is more content to be found by leveling up. Many games have lots of planned content that does just not make sense within the scope of the beginning of hte game to final boss for some reason... the better coordinated games might have a bonus high level boss/dungeon challenge or something.


PS: I'm glad it was concerned that the literal Light spell was being used to this effect... I was a little confused myself. And also I'm glad it was a timing glitch as Todd explained.

I just do it because it makes searching for Hidden stuff a lot easier, enemies cant just sneak up on you and kill you quick, and going down the kings path much less stressful (you know, the one to get to the kings key and forest light for moonlight) Doing that at level 60 is a breeze plus finishing the pass of shadows becomes almost trivial. To me, this makes the game no less fun, and, I tend to find something new every time I play wich keeps the game interesting and replayable.
