Finish the game as a mortal... (Spoiler rating: HIGH) |

I'm pasting this from another thread - I think this deserves it's own topic. If you would like to beat the game without getting immortality (with a heavy bill) from those warlocks, this little guide will help you do so.
*spoiler rating : HIGH*
You've been warned.
_______________
I'll not splurge on the actual ending, but I'll tell you the best approach to the mortal approach make it past the undead horde, the three demons and Jormungandr without a scratch. (cause if you get scratched, you die)
First and foremost, upon entering that room, do not talk to Jormungandr right away. Use Upheaval II on the "pillar" (just looks like a concrete square on the ground) right in front of Jormungandr (in accordance to how he's facing) - upheaval a total of 2 times.
Also, Upheaval II the "pillar" to Jormungandr's right a total of two times.
Once again, do all of this before talking to Jormungandr.
Now talk to him...
Once the small group of enemies appears, lure them over by where the skeleton will appear. (the skeleton (which isn't there yet) that you apply the Bracelet of Alchemy to - Jormungandr's right) This might require a few minutes of patience.
Quickly run over and apply the Eye of Horus to the altar then quickly step on the "concrete square" and use Upheaval II and ride the pillar up. You may have to re-position yourself to the pillar's center with each cast.
With Casting Upheaval II twice, you'll notice there is a network of magic symbols floor level with the raised pillars that you can walk on, out of harms way.
Make your way across the symbols to the pillar facing the original Jormungandr. Await all the enemies to gather around that pillar - once again, this will take a few minutes of patience.
Quickly go towards the skeleton and apply the Bracelet of Alchemy, then head over to the "Insignia of the Damned" and use the "Staff of Invocation". Depending on the number of souls you have will depend on how many of the skeleton enemies will be cleared out.
10 souls or less, a small group
11-20 souls a medium group
21-34 souls, a large group
35+ the entire group
If you have a few skeletons left, staff them, then step away for a few seconds. Using the staff of invoke earth has a hidden several-second recoil, so be sure to in out those kills....
When the skeletons are all cleared, you'll be left with the three demons. Two demons will walk after you, the other will stand in place and cast magic.
Do not try to take on both walking demons at once - I die every time. Instead, I take out one then distance myself.
Generally speaking I take out the caster 1st, one of the walkers then distance myself and take out the last demon being CLOSE to Jormungandr. (This will be easy to do, because the walkers will follow you everywhere.)
When you take out the last demon, Jormungandr reveals his "true form", quickly use the Staff of Invoke Earth on him. It will "knock" you across the room, run up to him as quick as you can and apply the staff each time. With luck, Jormungandr will just swing at you (while you're too far away) - just keep charging him.
IF IF IF you find yourself some distance between yourself and Jormungandr, and you see him rear his head to spray those fireballs, CIRCLE STRAFE RIGHT. He sprays to the right, and if you're far enough away, you'll miss the start of the spray.
Pillars might offer some shelter.
Quickly move in IMMEDIATELY after he sprays, use the staff, and repeat the previously mentioned paragraph until he is defeated.
Hope this little guide helps! ^_^

Here is what I have that I can't figure out:
-Chalice of Hermes
-Ring of Alchemy
Here are the things I think I should be able to access but can't because I must be missing things:
-The door in the earth realm (light side) that has a key pedastal behind it ( I can't get in, and I dont have the key that would fit that pedastal).
-The door in the water realm (light side) that has a key pedastal behind it with that same key which looks like it should be the silviera's key model.
-Pedastal in the dark side of the original area that appears to use a fire crystal.
Need help before the 10 count!

Final area: getting the last two elemental hearts (hint req) |

I managed to gain access to the final area (with your help Hguols). I'm in the area now and I've managed to get the Heart of Vindene and the Heart of Farvann. However, the two other sub-areas seem to be inaccessible ("There is no way to open this now"). I've lit the pedestals from one gate with my staff of invoke Fire, but I don't know what effect it had. I have a hunch that the two other hearts are in the dark perspective of this area (if it exists), so with that thought I've been looking for a lamppost to use the Illuminante, but I found none. Also, I do not notice anything that might make me think I have to upheave or displace. Hints?
Also, I used the coin given to me by the (apparently evil) mage and it summoned some headless skeletons. I tried wacking them with the staff of invoke earth, but it was useless and I got killed. Do I need to fight them and win in order to gain access to one of the two sub-areas?

Solved the elemental realms.....now what? |

I have all the staves from the elemental realms. There are a few things left I have been unable to solve (like the tall pillar in the main area where it states that a huge amount of strength would be needed to move it).
I'm not sure where to go next? There is a relic that I need to return to its original location, but heck if I know where that would be. Nothing obvious comes to mind.
I'll keep chugging along. By the way, here are my stats so far:
Intelligence 15
Magic level 47
Solves 86/118
Spirits Caught 34
I'll keep catching spirits until I have an eureka moment. =]

Hi, me again. I've actually made great strides since my last thread. Here is my current status:
intelligence 15
magic level 42
solves 81/118
The Wind realm turned out to be easier than the Earth realm.
I'm currently on the Wind realm. I've solved some of the riddles (fountain, clocks, water), and now I'm trying to get the key at the end of a previously-flooded hallway. My problem is that one of the pillars that I bring up does not sit in the middle like the rest. This makes it impossible for me to get across from one side to the other. I tried displacing it, nothing. The pillar does not look big enough to make me think I will need Displace III or something. I also looked for an Insignia of Wind, but did not find any.
At this point I'm stuck. I checked the dark perspective, and didn't find any clues that would help me figure out what to do next. Help?

Diadem of Maunstraut |

In lieu of a "Diadem of Maunstraut" board, I'm making this thread for discussion...
Formalities aside, I'm thoroughly enjoying this game for the most part.
I could've waited to make this post, but I wanted to say one thing before I forgot about what seems to be a clipping bug (of which I'm sure there might be many, but nonetheless...)
This bug bit me particularly sorely because I ran into it after my first successful go thru the section of the earth realm which won me the earthen armor (exact name wanting) ...basically upon my exit I headed immediately for the save point just outside the cave, and in my eagerness I found myself fallen thru the hillside, and to make matters worse this soon resulted in my HP hitting 0 no less (apparently the default action once without solid fooding)
Normally this might not warrant fixing under such already buggy (and generally irreconcilable limitations) but being as it is right behind a save point, I suggest giving it a once over before your next release iteration (please)
I'm not sure I have any further technical complaints which do not seem indigenous to SoM itself. But I feel like for all the talk of great difficulty in the publishings surrounding DoM, though there is a fair dose of genuine challenge, much of it appears to be simply the product of giving great one-hit kill power to the monsters of DoM. It would be far more rewarding I think to somehow limit the ability of normal monsters to do so.
(In turn perhaps items could be made to delay the player before successive use inorder to return some damage potential to monsters)
In fact the later game is not so difficult at all due to the unlimited spawning of baddies and no exp leveling off. I realize it is probably difficult to balance the game, and SoM perhaps ties your hands in terms of growth formulae... but perhaps at least you could balance out the early stage of the game by doing something like letting the player start with a full set of knight armor. It is after all very heavy, and the astute player might decide to discard it for the leather armor for more freedom (at their own risk)
...
Furthermore it seems a bit paradoxical for a chosen champion of sword and magic on a quest for a king to begin completely naked without weapon or magic. Perhaps you should even begin with a holy endowed mace, and a significant attack spell (though the bullet would seem much)
To further balance that you could greatly increase the undead and bug population.
Another nice feature if possible might be to make the larger monsters more powerful. They do have a longer reach, but it would be nice if size always equaled a greater challenge. Also again the immediate respawning I think actually makes the game easier (not what you want if your goal is challenge)
edited: Also there are a number of errs and oversights in your online documentation (maps etcetera)
Just some thoughts, and probably not the last of them.
I realize SoM is probably a bit of a straight jacket (though I have a fairly thorough grasp of its capabilities -- ie. with little time in it's trenches) but it never hurts to share impressions. Plus btw, though I'd admit this is an unexpected place to say so, I think I'm in the impression to remake SoM according to open and state of the art standards, so come what may, someday you will probably have a chance to do virtually anything with DoM you could possibly imagine. So here's to the future~
PS: Great job! Can't wait to find out if I get to do battle with The Master Therion himself...

Hello fellow KF and Moonlight-lunatics...
Firstly, in lieu of a general discussion/introduction board (every forum needs at least one) I am staking my claim to this board for now!!
Ok, nice to meet everyone. I would've signed on a some days ago, but it took me a little while to come up with a clever signin name... like a tattoo they tend to stick with you.
John (aka weissvulf) introduced me to SoM (and this website) not long ago. Well actually I found his website/email via kings-field.neocities.org, which I had pursued before, but before it was available there. I'd heard of his obtaining SoM before whilst on my own quests to do so. I'd given up for a while, but playing KF1 thanks to the Japanese PSN I was inspired to try again, and this time with sweet success!
I have played some Japanese SoM games available for download around the internet, but so far all these productions, though charming in their own way, otherwise pale in comparison to the relative masterpieces available thanks to your SoM website here. Kudos to the authors!
I've even momentarily laid down my PS3 KF1 jaunts in favor of the two finished games already available for download here. I think it's awesome that everyone strives to put the musical score first. I've always thought there was something different and haunting about KF music which I've ever been unable to truly categorize into a particular genre of sound, though I am familiar with many.
(However much the ever immersion loving game designer in me is willingly partial to the bgm-less environs of Shadow Tower)
I'm speaking of (let me look up the titles) "Diadem of Maunstraut" and "Trismegistus" of course. And I look forward to "Dark Destiny" upon initial release. Btw, if there are any records of Japanese user created SoM games somewhere, I would very much like to know. If not it would be a worthwhile endeavor I think to seek them out and save copies for safe keeping.
On a more personal note. I must admit I've never been very aware of any significant KF community, and even the stature of these halls I think dwarf attendance here. And I've always been one to loath corporate sponsored forums (eg. Agetec/Gamefaqs) and though I've been known to resort to Gamefaqs of last resort, I've never noticed more than a few dwindling posts in any KF related forums I've ever visited. And if the internet is any indicator KF appears even less popular in Japan... especially in terms of online content generated by players. So as you can imagine I probably have a lot of sleeping KF enthusiasm starving to express itself. For now though I will let sleeping dogs lie... if for only the sake of this thread's sanity
Thanks again everyone in keeping the KF flame burning~
PS: I will carry my dagger with conviction of purpose...

My curiosity actually paid off this time! I was able to get the second piece of the Trismegistus. How? I'll give you a hint: you need to obtain certain items that at first glance seem useless. Another hint? The second piece is around the main area that you start out in the game. You need to do something before you can obtain it.
52 solves and counting.

First of all, kudos for creating this game. It's one of the most addictive fun games I've played in a while.
Below is some info that may spoil certain solves in the game, for that I apologize ahead, my intention is to provide as much info as I can in order to at least receive some hints from you (the game creator or whoever reads this post).
Okay, before I ask questions, some info on how far I've progressed:
intelligence 8
magic level 23
solves 30/118 (technically it should be a few less, I'll explain below)
items in possession: eye of horus, icaros plume, magic seal, gold/copper/dream/steel/Brann's keys, alchemist's knowledge, Trismegistus (1/3), pitcher of eternity, spell of unearth, spell of displace I, broken axe/shield/shovel.
Also, I've found the fire crystal and placed it in the appropriate pedestal.
Now for my questions/beg session:
1. Platinum key: I've read previous threads, and it seems like the masks on the light side have something to do with the finding of this key. Well, I did remove the arrow from the big mask as well as from all the small masks I could find. I have a feeling that there may be a mask I have not found yet, but believe me I've looked in all the places I have access to. What am I missing, or what action I have not done (please don't be so vague)? I have a feeling that the platinum key is the only item that is keeping me stuck.
2. Number of solves: I may have found what I think is a bug, unless you tell me otherwise. In the light side, in the location where the dials are located near a sunken-in fountain, I noticed that once I cracked the sequence and a red flash screen occured and I pick up the prize, I can re-set the dials to the same correct sequence and the red flash screen occurs again, even though I had already picked up the prize the first time. This causes the number of solves to increase, since I don't believe it knows that the riddle has been already solved. Am I correct, or is this intentional?
3. "Broken" items: So far I have found no use for any of these items at all. Is there a way to repair each one so they become useful?
4. Hexes on ground: I noticed there are hexes on the ground in several locations. One of the dream sequence shows a column where a hex was, in front of a cave. Is there a spell that causes this to happen? If so, where the heck is it (again, please don't be vague)?
I'll appreciate any hints/help I can get.
