Return to Melanat
Introduction: Return to Melanat is an attempt to recreate the environments of King's Field 2 in a whole new light, and while delivering an entirely new story. Like all King's Field games, its gameplay centers around exploration, methodical combat, and light puzzle solving. All seven areas of Melanat are recreated to scale using nothing but the SOM toolset and very few custom resources. Please offer any constructive feedback, and have fun!
Note: This game is meant to be played in a standard 4:3 resolution. Widescreen mode is still playable, but will cause tile cut-off in open environments like the West Shore.

Story/Setting
This game takes place about twenty years after the events of King's Field 3. Light has been granted to the world and peace reigned for a while, however, a mysterious darkness has emerged on the Island of Melanat. Fearing the worst, the king led a detachment of knights to the island in an attempt to contain the spreading darkness, but they have not been heard from since. You play as a young prince who journeys to Melanat in search of his missing father, the king. From there, it is up to the player to explore the island and reveal its hidden secrets.

King's Field V - What do you expect? |

The question I'd like to ask in this post is simple - What would you like to see in a new King's Field sequel?
Should it go back to the original trilogy, expand on The Ancient City, or create an entirely new universe?
What would the setting be like, and what types of areas would you be willing to explore in this setting?
Lastly, how much content, in general, should a game like King's Field V have?

A Gauntlet Legends Style Game |

Maybe I should call it a clone lol, but my programmer and I have dabbled in sorting a Gauntlet Legends style game the last couple days - here is 2 days worth of effort or so:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxSXH2TN...e=youtu.be
Note my dynamic lights aren't working for some reason when I run Fraps, its odd - I think it might be framerate driven (auto adjusts quality on low framerate detection).
Anyhow, if we get interest, this game may appear on Steam and possibly mobile format in the future!

Gold Pieces Crashing SOM |

This is a bug that I noticed when testing Return to Melanat. Apparently, leaving too many gold pieces on the ground will eventually crash a Sword of Moonlight game, I believe the amount is around 100. Is there any way to fix this?

patreon.com anyone using that? |

So it was brought to my attention that a former affiliate with som.com had posted on patreon.com to get some patrons to continue work on SoM related activities as a hobby - as we all know, making games costs a great deal of personal time, time that could be spent on a paying job and so on. After reading into it, I think its a great website with a great idea...and was wondering if anyone has or is thinking about posting a patreon page to help them fund their work. I actually think I may.
Anyhow if anyone is on there and is looking for support, please post here!

Level transitions in SoM , and lighting |

Hello folks
I would like a few opinions on what I am debating over, and this will affect how my game turns out. Yes, all 25 base levels will be either changed or kept as they are depending on how I go about this.
So, after putting it off for a long while and reading up on map transitions in SoM, I decided to do a test to see the transition from a light to dark area. It doesnt work well at all by using the least 'scene' like approach, having no black on /off or white on/off.
There will be no warping through objects or items in my game, as I want the player to get the sense of adventure and playability... So it means I need to either get the lighting standardised across the whole board for my levels, or simply break the immersion feeling that I have tried very hard to preserve.
The problem is that I have outdoor and indoor areas. If I were to standardise the lighting universally, it would probably be based around the indoor, darker areas meaning outdoor sections would suffer in terms of visibility.

kings-field site broken - go to kings-field.neocities.org instead |

Ok guys, I have a moral question for you... Martin, our old friend (DarchAngelX on the boards) apparently does not respond to emails anymore as I have tried to reach him for months about the condition of his website. kings-field.neocities.org has been hacked...for months and is now a dangerous website with phishing ads etc all over the place on it...this is no fitting way to host one of my favorite sites on the web.
So my question is...I was contemplating recreating all the pages on som.com/kings-field sub links on this domain. It wouldnt be that hard, copying his html, grabbing all the images (while they are still available) and updating the urls wouldn't take me more than a few days effort. The question is, is that bad form, would people mind?
Obviously if you want to harm your computer you could still go to kings-field.neocities.org and browse there, but I would think people would prefer an ad free experience. I do my best to keep this domain safe to users and will never stick ads or anything stupid like that on it.
If you guys are behind me, I will recreate the pages here in a safe environment - or I could update the content to conform to the pages of the main site...its really up to the fans of the series how it should be done. But I definitely want to save this holy grail of information before it disappears forever.
Let me know what you think please!
