A bit of help needed with events...
Posted by: scott - 2011-07-04, 01:20 AM - Forum: SOM Guides, FAQ and Help - Replies (1)

I've been havin a bit of trouble with some events so I'll describe what it is I'm tryin to do.

Each time the player levels up they have a choice to choose an extra point for str or mag. I can never get ‎  the events correct cause they always end in an infinite loop. I then got a better idea and tried to give the player an item so they could use in on a “trainer†‎ NPC (so the events wouldn't be needed on every map) and yet again, another infinite loop of endless items. (Well, 255 of them, lol) ‎

If anyone could understand my ramblings could you help me? I'm still learning the events still, lol. ‎

  Installation Package For Game
Posted by: Creatura - 2011-07-01, 02:05 PM - Forum: Tools - Replies (2)

Since nobody else has mentioned it yet, I decided to post this.

If you have created a runtime, it would be great to save it as installer package.

Install Maker
This is the program that will help you create an executable for the game.

I don't think this will need any "how-to"-s because it has a very user friendly interface.
The best thing about this program is that it is completely FREE!!!

New wiki site for the som.com community
Posted by: dmpdesign - 2011-06-27, 06:06 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

I think its about time we begin centralizing all the knowledge and data collected within these forum pages.

I am in the process of adding a new site wiki and have generated a beginning wiki page in two locations using two different wiki backends.

The first site is the one I have put a bit more effort into, it is developed from mediawiki, the same wiki source that wikipedia uses and will be familiar for anyone who writes on those pages. ‎  For examples I have already loaded a few pages from wikipedia itself into the pages (some that are likely edited by some of the members here like Guyra) but you will see a few things that arent quite fully functional yet such as broken links and missing templates...but I am working on it.

This is the site id really like to use: swordofmoonlight.com/somwiki and you can go ahead and create accounts and begin using it if you wish. keep in mind you have to register seperately on the wiki site and you will be required to authenticate your email before you can begin adding pages and editing.

Alternatively, we are also looking at a wiki utility created by 'lionwiki'. ‎  its current address resides at swordofmoonlight.com/wiki and you can browse what little i have there if you want. ‎  unfortunately im not as familiar with it so it is not as far along as the other wiki site for you to view its capabilities.

Over the next few days myself and a couple others will be determining which wiki site will provide us with the functionality and ease of use we are looking for, but for now if you have opinions please chime in.

A little off topic from SOM....
Posted by: Hguols - 2011-06-25, 03:16 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

I reached one of my goals last night.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7ppTOIjOHM

My fiance is operating the camera, and that's her voice.
I'm not much for the guy to my left having his hand on the bar, but based on how relaxed his hands are, and how the weights go up, I don't think he took anything off.

This morning, I feel like I've been hit by a car. ‎  ( ^ - ^)

Info on extracting King's Field textures
Posted by: HwitVlf - 2011-06-25, 01:50 AM - Forum: SOM Guides, FAQ and Help - Replies (14)

Creatura got me thinking about extracting KF models with textures and all. I did some checking and KF textures are stored in a TIM format with an altered header which means they can't be auto-extracted with a standard TIM tool.

But if anyone cares to take the time, it should be easy enough to make a simple byte swapping program to convert KF textures to standard TIM files (which can easily be converted to BMPs). I made a document with some info on KF's format
HERE.

It also includes a copy of the "RTIM.T" file off the KF disk whose 64x64 pixel textures have been converted to standard TIMs using just a 'search/replace' feature in a hex editor. There's also some extracted textures and the complete Kraken enemy in MQO format.

Bloody Checkers - an xbox game by kilroyfx
Posted by: dmpdesign - 2011-06-22, 04:03 AM - Forum: Game Chat - Replies (12)

Not sure if you guys remember kilroy from back in the day, his first xbox indie game just released, and eventhough its checkers, it has a very king's fieldish element to it;)

scroll through the images here and youll see some of the rpg elements and the obvious nod at the KF style of gameplay. ‎  I bought it immediately ( i had play tested it of course) and couldnt be happier with my well spent $1.

  Registration will be down temporarily
Posted by: dmpdesign - 2011-06-14, 12:19 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Due to the influx of spammers/bots that somehow are getting past the captcha settings I have in place, I am temporarily disabling site registration.

If you want to become a member feel free to email me at [email protected] and I will be happy to set you up with a user account (please supply your desired account name and email address).

Once I figure out how to implement a better security system on the registration page, Ill get it back up, but for now, sifting through several hundred fake accounts every day is just becoming a nuisance.

Thanks!

  Helpful / Interesting Sources

Here i (and hopefully others) will be posting sources that might help developers with their games.

I know this might not seem true to 3d, but there are processes and inklings on this page that may help with armour creation.
Some great close ups for meshes.
