  Bugs Still in Game!
Posted by: kingsfieldfan - 2010-01-11, 06:16 PM - Forum: Dark Destiny - Replies (21)

First off I love kingsfield games and remember playing the original KF1 on the ps1 about 8-10 years ago, it had me mesmerized.

Second, thanks to all the fans for creating these offshoots.

Now I have noted at least 2 bugs still in game:

at Harry's inn , when I stay the night all I hear is music for a few seconds then the game crashes.

This bit is tricky to say.

After you kill the devil and it drops a crystal and the crystal falls over the waterfall, this bit, and you keep going until you have got past the mushrooms and snake, I first went throught this door and it is the bit where you can pick up a peach and if you fall off the cliff there is a truth mirror, and there is lava with a bridge and a pedestal in the middle, this bit now when I go there now and go through this door all I do is fall from the door and there is sky everywhere , if any one can understand that then you are better than me HA HA.

I have been playing for 3 days and have installed the game with the latest patch ver 1.5.

What is going on here can someone explain this Crying.

I am really enjoying the game and do not want to give up, if it can not be fixed could someone email some saves past this bit please Smile.

Thanks again to everyone involved in getting kingsfield games out to the general public, for they are truly gems of games Wink.

  Fun with video!
Posted by: Hguols - 2010-01-11, 06:00 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (10)

Here's two videos I did today, "acoustic" versions of the Hguols stuff. ‎

First, a classical guitar version of "...of Winter Moons", track 6 on the Epitome album. ‎  For those of you who don't have MP3s of the original song, that song is features on my myspace page. ‎  (https://www.myspace.com/hguols)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVF2C_J8-jo

For trivia's sake, that video was taken in my bedroom, and at the end of the video, I smiled at my mother who comes to see me Sunday afternoons. ^_^

Here is a piano version of "...of Unprecedented Deaths", which the original version of the Hguols song is track 2 on the Epitome album. ‎  This song is actually in the Dark Destiny game, I think with water droplets going.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ8u7EwnhFk

This is played at an old piano in the cafeteria of where I work. The F key right below middle C makes this bad clicking sound, and the piano is out of tune... however, I like the look and sound of it, despite that. (I'm not much for "keyboards" at least in regards to performances)

The videos were taken with my PSP. ‎  I improved the audio a little with some Cakewalk plugins.

Files to switch map Pieces available
Posted by: HwitVlf - 2010-01-09, 11:50 PM - Forum: SOM Addons - Replies (1)

The existing number of map Pieces is close to the maximum of 1024.
One way to have access to more Pieces is to use the attached files to switch
back and forth between new and original Pieces. New map Pieces can be distributed
named as PR2 instead of PRT and the attached BAT file will quickly switch them with
like-numbered PRT files.

You can not use PR2 and the original Pieces they replaced (PRT files) on the same map.
But you can use PR2s on one map, and the original Pieces on a different map in the same project.
You just have to make sure that the appropriate file (PR2 or PRT) is active when you "Output/Compile" each map in the project.

Included is the large Shadow Tower set that was made by one of our Japanese friends to show how the setup can work.

Below is the Readme for people who do not have Microsoft Word:
-- --------------------------------

The included files will let you use more than 1024 different map Pieces in one SoM project.
But you still can not use more than 1024 different Pieces on a single map.
This ability is accomplished by switching between two different map Piece designs.
New map Pieces can be distributed with the file extension "PR2" and the included BAT files
will swap the new PR2 Pieces with the original Pieces in the Map Editor.
You can also switch back if you want to use the originals again.

To use:
1) Install any PR2 map Piece files the same way you would install normal PRT files.

2) Place "Use_PR2s.bat" and "Restore_PRTs.bat" in ". . . \data\map\parts". You may make shortcuts to the BAT files for easy access.

3) Make sure the Map Editor is closed. Activate "Use_PR2s.bat" to switch original map Piece files with new PR2 map Piece files.

If you activate "Restore_PRTs.bat", the original map Piece files will be restored.

EXAMPLE:
Activate "Use_PR2s.bat"
The original 0512.prt-0591.prt are renamed 0512.orig-0591.orig.
The new 0512.pr2-0591.pr2 are renamed ‎  0512.prt-0591.prt and may be used to build maps.

Activate "Restore_PRTs.bat"
The new 0512.prt-0591.prt are returned to their original name of 0512.pr2-0591.pr2.
The new 0512.orig-0591.orig are returned to their original name of 0512.prt-0591.prt.

Important notes:
You can only use PR2 OR the original (PRT) files they replaced on the same map.
You must not use PR2 AND the original (PRT) files they replaced on the same map.
You may use PR2 files on one map in a project, and then use the original (PRT) files on a different map in the same project. But, the appropriate Piece set (PRT or PR2) must be active when you compile each map in your project (by pushing the "Output/Compile" button).

Included is a sample "Shadow Tower" Piece set which was made by one of our fellow Japanese SoM fans. To use the Shadow Tower set, copy the included "DATA" folder into SoM's install directory that also contains a folder named "DATA". Then run "Use_PR2s.bat" (make sure it is in the "parts" folder). The Shadow Tower set should show up at #512 in the Map Editor and it may be used to build a map. To restore the original map Pieces, activate Restore_PRTs.bat.

kind of a neat site if you translate it and understand it.

Seems some of our works here are being enjoyed over in Japan which is cool...not sure if anyone over there is still working on any games, but they do have a nice list of foreign SOM titles on their boards.

I woulda created an account but the security code requires kanji :)

  Wicklow Demo V1.0
Posted by: johnnypark66 - 2010-01-07, 07:38 PM - Forum: Wicklow - Replies (27)

The demo for my game is finished, I sent it to todd via e-mail. It is just one map but it is big and tells enough of the story to get the player introduced to the jist of the game. Comments are welcome.

  Fixed Earth Dragon enemy 'size'
Posted by: HwitVlf - 2010-01-05, 10:13 PM - Forum: SOM Addons - Replies (1)

SoM's Earth dragon enemy model has an excessively large collision size- so much that the player can't get close enough to use a Truth Mirror 'Assess' type Item. I'm going to include a fix for that in the v1.2 translation, but I thought I'd post it here first so you (Todd) can use it in DD if you want.

To apply the change, drop the 'Data' folder from the attached into SoM's directory that already has the data folder. Then, in the Parameter Editor, select each enemy that uses the Earth Dragon model and hit 'Register' then 'save'.

  Object Help

I need help on re-texturing objects. For example the house windows. Would it be possible to make it all wood (wood of choice) and no bricks? Any help would be appreciated.

Anyone find any of those hard to get items? You know the kind that you have to kill something 1000 times before they drop their goodies?

I think I just found one...the Groundal Mace ‎  Badteeth

Should we make a list of Map Piece dimensions?
Posted by: HwitVlf - 2010-01-01, 10:16 PM - Forum: SOM Guides, FAQ and Help - Replies (12)

I was thinking that it takes a bit of work to figure out the dimensions of old map Pieces in order to make new Pieces that match up.
Would it be a good idea to keep a 'database' of the vertex coordinates for the outer edges on existing map Pieces so people can easily make new Pieces that precisely 'plug in' to the old?
