Darker than KF? |

I do like this game but there are times when i think... This is pretty damn weird. I mean, KF was weird make no mistake, but it was "old school" fantasy style weird. I dont really enjoy the strangeness in DS, because there are points when it can heavily distract you from the gameplay.
Some people like this... But dont you feel that it should have stayed with the original style of KF? Something was missing, i felt.
This is just my opinion and i hope others can gauge their opinion based upon their own experiences.

I'm posting this in the DD board on purpose.... but first I want to say, after playing beta DD I wanted to play KF2 again (before playing DD again) ...now I've played thru KF2 at least two times in my life, once when it was fairly new, and later again when I was either finishing highschool or had some time to kill after having finished, and well now I've officially played thru two sittings (which in my case tends to not be very long) and I'm astounded how quickly the game seems to have unraveled. More or less my first recognizable accomplishment was to find the dragon fountain, and not too many minutes later I'd mustered the courage to start slaying the guards and had in my possession the jail key. Let Alef's comrade out of jail and had in my possession the first dragon figure key (forget what the name was) ...and I had the presence of mind to walk back and save my game to make sure I chose the right spring (something I don't think I ever did before) which makes a huge diff, because in past play thrus, A) I recall not finding the fountain until later in the game, and B) I'm pretty sure both times I ended up unleashing the ailment healing spring first (so no free MP until even further into the game) ...though I think I would've been wise enough not to do that on my second play thru unless I had so ingrained the game into my psyche I'd taken it for granted the status spring would just come first. Anyway it's a real joy... and it's been significantly long enough that I've forgotten nearly everything in detailed terms about the experience, which is something I always see to before revisiting a book/movie/game I have great esteem for.
All that said.... I gotta admit, I really can't place the starting map of DD into the layout of this area in KF2. I'd be shocked if the key locations on the map lineup at all or even orient in the correct directions... I haven't heard much of anything from Todd lately (I'm assuming because we're not keeping the same hours) but I'd really like to see a side by side layout of the KF2 and DD maps for this area dissected. I really like DD and I really like KF2 so much, the rest of DD really hits home, but this map just doesn't fit.... I'd go so far as to get out a sketch pad and totally redo the damned thing for DD if Todd would promise to put it in the official game sooner or later.
To be honest I'd like to see DD's maps poured over and over time refined until they mirror KF2's as perfectly as possible (perhaps paving the way for a KF2 remake) by whoever would pitch into the task. I don't see anything in KF2 that I couldn't model in Som... even if it meant a few more cheesy transitions it would be well worth it to get it right / do justice to the layouts (even if DD was never meant to be a 1 to 1 mirror of KF2 Melanat)
EDITED: Btw, it just blows my mind how awesome an experience you can have for 600yen off the PSN compared to all the liquid gold dipped turds lining the shelves of all the retail outlets... I consider video games my one true love in terms of media, but in reality my media attention span is more divided about 40% music, 30% tv, 20% film, 8% print, 2% games... and that's a shame. But as a medium games have only been around for a short while so the back catalogue is not much, and well let's face it, the golden years are long gone and were short lived. A least I can focus all that latent energy into video game related work (usually far more tangentially so than what I've done for Som already)

Coffee went to some length to translate a contract you must agree to in order to "legally" download things from the patch / addendum stuff page on the official Som website. Surprisingly for a document not in English it's obsessed with Ireland... worth looking at just for the fun of that.
I dunno, any thoughts? Do we know of any other legal documents pertaining to Som?

This is copied directly from the agetec boards, but I thought it might be good to post it here as well.
How to buy Sword of Moonlight and other KF memorabilia!
If you're one of those people who have been looking for a copy of the original King's Field Japan, Shadow Tower Abyss or Sword of Moonlight: King's Field Making Tool for EVER without any luck, I may have found a way to buy memorabilia for our beloved KF from Japanese sellers and have it shipped to the US.
Yahoo Auction Japan is one of several Japanese sellers' forums similar to ebay. Infoseek is a Japanese to English automatic webpage translator. Celga is one of several online bidding services that will buy items for you from sites like Yahoo Auctions who won't ship internationally, for a fee (around $5- $10), and ship them to you .
Here's the walkthrough for those of us who think Japanese looks like chicken scratch:
Go to: https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp
You should see this in the upper left corner
Copy and paste the Japanese name (shown below) of the item you want to buy in the text field at (1). Then, push the button (2) to begin search.
Sword of Moonlight: ???????????
King's Field: ?????????
Shadow Tower Abyss: ??????????
Yahoo Auctions will then show you the items that matched your search.
Look at the pictures and when you find what you're looking for click on its link.
In the middle-right of the item's listing screen there is a block of info about the listing.
Here's a rough translation so you know what it means:
Current price = current bid in Yen (1 yen = approximately 1 cent US so 7980 yen = $79.80US)
Remaining time -1st (1?) = ?means 'day' so, 1 day before auction ends
Maximum amount bidder = total number of bidders (no bids in this example)
Hope successful bid price = buy it now price (unlike ebay, the buy it now remains available even after someone bids)
A bid unit = how much you have to raise the current bid to place a new bid
Exhibition area = Item's location
To do an auto-translation of the item page, copy its address then go to:
https://translation.infoseek.co.jp/?ac=Web&lng=en
Paste the item's address into the text field.
Mark the bulls-eye (1) (says 'translate Japanese to English')
Push the button (2)
After your item's translated page loads, you will see the sellers item description info at the bottom part of the page. Japanese tend to give minimal descriptions because it is assumed that a seller will be honest and mention any serious defects in the item.
If you find an item you would like to buy or bid on, there are several online bid services who will deal with the seller and forward the item to you.
Celga is the one I recently used: https://celga.com/faq.html#ques1
Akibado is another such service: https://www.akibado.com/auction.html
You should definitely read all the terms and info for any service you might use.
They usually require a deposit for part or all of the purchase price in advance. Celga accepts paypal; I don't know about other services. When I used their service they required half my maximum bid, or all of my 'buy it now' in advance. After they received the item from the Yahoo seller, they sent a bill for the sellers shipping cost and the cost for shipping to the US plus their $10 fee.
Hope all this info helps someone. After years of looking everywhere, I finally got a copy of Sword of Moonlight this way YAY! It hasn't arrived yet but hopefully there won't be any problems.

I would like to get a sword of moonlight page on wikipedia.org to highlight the tool and reference information about it in the style that would be acceptable to the wiki rules.
I know some folks that visit here and the agetec forums have constructed alot on the KF pages, so it would be nice to see some action there and get an official SOM page.
once that is done, I think it would be easier to create sub topics to it about some of the fan made games that are being created/finished. if we dont have the baseline SOM page, i think the editors of the wiki site will probably delete any pages about SOM made games. In fact they already did this to DoM (which is gay).
Anybody feel like starting an SOM page? I would but i think my affiliation with this site would cause them to immediately delete it due to calling it an advertisement.
if anyone does make the page, please do not put a link to this site within the contents of what youre writing.
Let me know if anyone wants to give a go.
